Hidden Gems: Meet Tammy Bishop of Bicycle Lessons 4 All

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tammy Bishop.

Hi Tammy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2013, I began teaching my private occupational therapy clients how to ride a bike. Riding a bike is a life skill I felt they should know how to do. Also, families with a child with special needs often don’t have many opportunities to do something together out in their community. With my clients knowing how to ride a bike, family bike rides became an opportunity for them.

In 2018, I was curious about the system of steps I had created to teach kids how to pedal without training wheels. Could this system work with adults? I posted on Facebook asking for adults who wanted to learn how to ride. The responses were from parents of children without special needs. This was the beginning of my lessons for the general public.

Since then, word spread about my lessons and I teach an average of ten students a week. Most students are children and we meet during the day (for homeschoolers), after school, and on Saturdays. Adult students take lessons around their work schedule.

For those who cannot take in-person lessons, because of traveling distance and/or finances, I created instructional books: Bicycle Lessons for Kids and Bicycle Lessons for Adults, both available on Amazon. I also created video lessons for children and they can be found on Outschool.com.

Currently, I’m creating a three-hour course to teach others (occupational therapists, teachers, tutors, and others) how to use my system to teach children and adults how to ride a bike, and how to turn bicycle lessons into a fun side business. I plan to teach this course all over Florida and the first one is in West Palm Beach on January 31, 2026.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
In general, yes. Because my bike lessons started out slowly and on the side of my full-time job, I was able to keep it moving forward at a smooth and comfortable pace. Now, I’m in the exciting phase of trying to figure out ways to grow my business.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Bicycle Lessons 4 All?
Bicycle Lessons 4 All is the only bicycle-lesson business in Central Florida at this time; and, there aren’t many bicycle lesson businesses in the US. My goal is to change that and share my system with others, so that more children and adults can learn how to pedal and enjoy the physical and mental benefits from riding.

What sets my lessons apart from the way friends and family try to teach their loved one how to ride is that I focus on building balance before pedaling. Having balance first helps pedaling feel easier and less scary. Also, with my occupational therapy background, I can see where a student has difficulty and I can help them overcome the hurdle and continue making progress.

All of my students are fearful of learning because they don’t want to fall. My system avoids falling as much as possible; I demonstrate to everyone the two most common falls and how to avoid them.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Yes, thank you. If your child says they don’t want to learn how to ride or they say they don’t need to learn, this may indicate that they’re afraid. Give my lessons a try and assure your child that I do my best to keep them from falling. They may be like the other students who are not interested in learning how to ride- these are the students who don’t want to stop riding at the end of their final lesson.

If you’re an adult and would love to know how to ride a bike, but not sure how to get started, I can help. We can do in-person lessons; or, you can try my book, Bicycle Lessons for Adults, available on Amazon.com.

Thanks so much for this opportunity to share my story with your readers.
