Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Guy.
Hi Jamie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Meet Heath and Jamie Guy of Proximity Wellness
Heath and Jamie Guy grew up in Union Park, Florida, where they learned early the value of showing up, working hard, and taking care of the people around them. Years later, those lessons would shape the foundation of Proximity Wellness, a mental health practice the brothers launched together in 2024.
Although their careers followed different paths, both brothers spent years in high-pressure, service-driven environments. Heath began his professional life in corrections and law enforcement before transitioning into the private sector, where he ultimately held executive leadership roles at the Vice President level. Along the way, he earned both his undergraduate and master’s degrees as a working adult, balancing education with full-time leadership responsibilities.
Jamie’s journey started in the military and led him into healthcare. He worked as an emergency room nurse before earning his master’s degree and completing advanced training as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. His experience spans acute care and psychiatric treatment, giving him a broad perspective on how mental health intersects with physical health, stress, and everyday life.
The idea for Proximity Wellness began as a series of conversations between the brothers in January 2024. By April, they had launched the practice as a telehealth model, initially focused on treating obesity-related depression, including the use of GLP-1 medications when appropriate. As patient relationships developed, it became clear that many people were also dealing with ADHD, anxiety, executive dysfunction, and post-traumatic stress. The scope of the practice expanded in response.
From the beginning, Heath and Jamie chose to bootstrap the business. They kept overhead low and made decisions based on sustainability rather than rapid growth. Proximity Wellness started as a cash-based practice, but it quickly became evident that insurance access would be essential for many patients. The credentialing process brought its share of challenges, including early missteps with vendors, but those lessons ultimately led to a stable billing and credentialing partnership.
As the practice grew, so did its footprint. The original website was replaced with a fully redesigned platform that better reflected the services being offered. What began as a strictly virtual practice later evolved into a hybrid model with the addition of an in-person office at 450 South Orange Avenue in downtown Orlando. The location allows patients to choose between telehealth and face-to-face care, depending on their needs.
Given their backgrounds, Proximity Wellness has become especially approachable for military members, veterans, and public safety professionals. The brothers understand the pressures that come with service-oriented careers, and that understanding is reflected in how the practice operates.
Proximity Wellness grew out of lived experience rather than a business plan built for scale. For Heath and Jamie Guy, the goal has remained consistent: build something practical, accessible, and rooted in the community that raised them.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely has not been a smooth road. Initially we were wearing multiple hats as we grew the practice. Cash was in limited supply, however we decided to make the investments where they made sense, such as credentialing (to accept insurance) as well as an overhaul of our website by a professional designer. We had issues with early vendors. Good communications is one of our non-negotiable. We stuck to our guns and ultimately created a great group of vendors that support our practice. Operating budgets are always a concern. We have bootstrapped the practice by refusing to take out loans or credit lines. We had a goal to create a debt-free practice, and to-date, that remains the case.
We’ve been impressed with Proximity Wellness, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Proximity Wellness, LLC (we call it PRX) is a licensed and credentialed mental wellness practice owned and operated by brothers Heath and Jamie Guy. Heath manages the business side, and Jamie handles client care. We specialize in treating issues associated with ADHD, PTSD, executive dysfunction, OCD, and depression. What sets us apart is the relationships we have with our clients. We combine technology with old school Southern hospitality in a practice that puts patients over profits. Our clients enjoy chatting with Jamie through our secure portal pretty much seven days a week (he never takes a day off it seems). We hold ourselves to a very high standard of care and we treat our clients like family with equal parts straight-talk and compassionate care.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
You can’t put a dollar amount on success. Sure it would be great to make a lot of money, but for us, positive feedback from our clients means all the money in the world to us. We operate PRX on the principle that the only way the practice succeeds is by putting clients first. Due to the nature of our business, clients are sometimes hesitant to give public reviews, however the feedback we receive in our chat channels makes the hard work completely worth it.
