Rising Stars: Meet Terri Martini of Oviedo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Terri Martini.

Hi Terri, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I moved from Boston to Oviedo in 2015 after a horrific winter which brough 8′ of snow in 6 weeks. I have a cousin here and after many times of him asking me to move, we finally did!

What is my story? Which one? The single mom? Business owner? Rotarian? Seminole Republican Women’s Federated Club President? Special Event Administrator for the City of Oviedo? Or all of the above?

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being single mom for most of my son’s life brought obvious challenges- finances, child care, education- but showing him the way to survive and thrive in a world where you make your own way has made him into the independent person he is today.

The marketing company I owned when arriving in Oviedo was sole sourced by Cara Donna Provisions and they sold within a year. I closed the company and took a job at 50% of my revenue but found a great ‘work home’ at the City.

Working for the City of Oviedo for almost 9 years has definitely had its challenges. Those challenges were almost always an outside influence causing unnecessary chaos. Overall, I am know for my #lovemyjob and I will always love my job!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I went back into the catering business in 2022. It is an industry very few people can completely remove themselves from. I love being able to create the vision that clients have when it comes to a small gathering right up to a wedding or festival.

I am proud of being able to see things that people don’t, executing that vision and while I sweat the small stuff, clients do not! I was able to speak at the Greater Miami Festival and Events Conference and I still have people reference my ability to create the WOW Factor.

I have 40 years of experience in food and beverage and I like to think that that has groomed me into being the perfectionist, hard working, idea creating person I am in my industry.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Advice I would give those starting out:

1. You don’t know everything- you actually don’t know anything until you have made mistakes and learned from them.
2. Believe in your ideas and come with a plan prepared to execute.
3. Keep your head on a swivel. You never know what fire you may have to put out
4. Appreciate all that get you where you want to be
