Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As a stay-at-home mom raising my family on a small farm in Florida, my journey into poultry began with a simple desire for high-quality breeds and fresh, reliable eggs. Unfortunately, like many others, I fell victim to repeated scams from online farm pages when purchasing hatching eggs and chicks that never lived up to their promises. Frustrated by these experiences, I decided to turn things around by starting my own business focused on connecting people with trusted, NPIP-certified breeders—a venture that has allowed me to generate income while staying home to raise my young son. Through this venture, I discovered Melissa at LazzzyD Farms, whose deep passion for exceptional birds matched my own and inspired us to collaborate. Together, at The Feral Feathered Farm, we’re dedicated to showcasing the finest breeders in northern Florida. I personally travel across the region—often with my one-year-old son in tow—to source the best eggs and chicks, then deliver them to customers who want premium, healthy poultry without the long drive. Since partnering with Melissa and other top NPIP breeders, my mission has become clear: to provide families with some of the healthiest, best-bred chickens available, ensuring the quality and integrity I once struggled to find, all while cherishing the flexibility to be present for every moment of my son’s early years.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being a new mom and juggling trying to start a business was very hard. Especially creating life in the back room of my house, while dealing with demands, orders, and finding good breeders to work with. I was traveling 45 minutes to 2 hours away with my son with me!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I travel to find NPIP breeders to be able to hatch their eggs at my home. Providing the best quality chicks and eggs to people in my area. I also am focused on starting three new chicken lines of my own at my farm! Being able to cross certain breeds to create fun colored eggs and stunning, healthy chicks! I go above and beyond for my customers. Making sure I provide healthy birds for their families while also opening my phone for emergencies if they have questions with chickens. We say that chickens play 1000 ways to die, and I do my best to help others keep their birds healthy!
