Today we’d like to introduce you to Joey Harris.
Hi Joey, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started art at a very young age, getting in trouble mostly for doing graffiti but it led me into my first tattoo shop, I started tattooing after a lengthy , strenuous apprenticeship under the famous Fallen Angel. I have been tattooing for 20 years now and I try to excel in all styles. I’m a firm believer that a true tattoo artist can do whatever is requested from him so I can do whatever you want in any style. I have a true passion for my craft!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was not always a smooth road, my apprenticeship was a hard one as it was an old school one. I was made to make needles by hand, scrub and sterilize many tubes, if the mentors asked for their car washed than that’s what I did! To say it was an easy road would be a fabrication as it was a long hard road to get to where I’m at but it made me respect and truly love my community and my art!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I don’t have a style per se, I do all styles! I think that’s part of what sets me apart from other artists, I also try to make every client feel like a friend. I believe that is what makes a great tattoo experience. My mentor always told me that being a good person will take you far so I try to make every tattoo an experiance. One worth bragging to your friends about.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My mentor Fallen Angel , Aaron Richards, Dan Catron, Johnny Lashley, all of which made me who I am today! Also to my apprentices that have moved on and made great careers, Dom Libretti, Danny Peniero, Nathan Armstrong, they helped me stay driven.my mother who has always been by my side and pushed me to be the best I can! Finally my amazing wife Tattum keeps me focused and I strive every tattoo to impress her.
