Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Sobolewski.
Hi Jason, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My family and I have always loved doing escape rooms. As an engineer, I was fascinated by the design behind them — the mechanics, the logic, the hidden details that make everything come together. But more than that, we loved how escape rooms brought us together. They create a connection you just don’t get from most activities — hands-on, immersive fun that challenges your mind while building real memories.
Several years ago, our family went through a major shake-up. I knew I needed something that would help my kids and me stay connected and push forward together. I had been toying with the idea of starting an escape room business for a while… and decided to dive in.
EDGE was born.
The name EDGE stands for Everything Done for Gabe and Elaine — my kids and my inspiration behind it all.
I did a lot of online research before opening, though looking back, I probably should have done even more. It was truly learning by fire. But my kids and I worked together on room concepts from the beginning. One thing we knew early on: we wanted to create a fully family-friendly escape room location. We had often struggled to find rooms that were both appropriate and genuinely fun for all ages, so we set out to change that.
We took the concepts we loved from other escape experiences and elevated them. All of our rooms feature multiple spaces to explore, with a wide variety of puzzle styles to engage different ways of thinking. We intentionally included physical and skill-based challenges so everyone — from the puzzle mastermind to the hands-on problem solver — could shine.
We invested in the latest technology and began the build-out. Finding the right location was challenging, but we chose the Rolling Oaks shopping plaza near Margaritaville because it offers easy access for tourists just minutes from Disney, while also being convenient for locals looking to avoid I-4 traffic — right on the border of Hamlin, Clermont, and Kissimmee.
Getting through build-out was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. Looking back, I still can’t believe we pushed through all the obstacles. Starting the business was terrifying. I didn’t even have my own social media before this — but I jumped in and learned how to market, promote, and build awareness from scratch.
Since then, EDGE has grown steadily. I’ve been blessed with incredible employees who have each brought something special to the company and helped shape the experience inside our rooms. The escape room community in Orlando has also been amazing — fellow owners have been supportive, collaborative, and generous with advice.
What I truly love most is creating experiences that leave lasting memories.
Being a gamemaster is like running a live video game — guiding players, reading the room, adjusting the experience in real time to maximize their fun and success. Every group is different. The range of people who walk through our doors constantly surprises us.
And even now, we still meet guests who have never done an escape room before. There’s nothing better than introducing someone to their very first experience and watching them walk out smiling.
That’s why we built EDGE.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was not a smooth road at all. I had never run a business so there was a lot of learning around permits and proper Filing of documents and taxes. I should have done a lot more research around leases and contracts. I can’t stress to anyone else looking to start a business to talk to other owners and research, research, research. There are plenty of people who would love to help and learn from their experiences.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m an Engineer by profession which has played a huge role in our escape room development and continuous improvement. Problem solving isn’t just for playing the escape room games but is needed to fix issues and continuously improve them.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
Our city brings in so many people from different backgrounds and cultures. I have been blessed to travel a lot in my life and love meeting people from different areas and hearing about things they have discovered or tried. What I like least is how strict we are on business codes and it’s understandable with all the theme parks but it can be very difficult on new business owners.
