Conversations with Ladiny Sainvil

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ladiny Sainvil.

Hi Ladiny , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Open Book Behavioral Tutoring was born out of both professional experience and personal conviction.

I started my career providing ABA therapy across in-home, clinic, and school settings, working primarily with children with developmental delays. Over time, I stepped into a role as a Behavior Specialist within the public school system, where I sat in IEP meetings, supported teachers, conducted assessments, and helped navigate behavioral challenges in real time. That experience gave me a front-row seat to two things: how hard educators are working and how overwhelmed families often feel.

I began to notice a gap. There were families whose children didn’t necessarily need full-time intensive ABA services, but were still struggling with focus, emotional regulation, executive functioning, homework completion, or school-based behaviors. There were neurotypical children falling through the cracks because their challenges weren’t “big enough” for formal services, but were absolutely impacting their confidence and learning.

Open Book Behavioral Tutoring grew from that space.

I wanted to create something that blended evidence-based behavioral science with practical academic support. A place where we could work on reading fluency and math skills, while also addressing task initiation, frustration tolerance, and organization. A model that supports the whole child – not just the behavior, not just the academics – but the systems around them, including parents and teachers.

What started as one-on-one sessions has grown into a multifaceted practice. Today, I provide behavioral tutoring, parent coaching, school consultations, and IEP advocacy. I collaborate with families, educators, and other professionals to create consistent, functional plans that actually work in real life and not just on paper.

Entrepreneurship has stretched me in ways clinical work never did. It required me to step into uncomfortable spaces – marketing, branding, financial systems, public visibility – and work through my own imposter syndrome. But those growing pains shaped the business into something intentional and values-driven.

At its core, Open Book Behavioral Tutoring is about clarity. Helping children understand expectations. Helping parents understand behavior. Helping teachers feel supported. And helping families feel like they’re not alone in the process.

The name “Open Book” reflects transparency and collaboration. There is no mystery to behavior – there are patterns, functions, and solutions. And when we approach children with curiosity instead of judgment, everything shifts.

Today, I’m proud to run a practice that bridges behavior and academics in a way that feels both compassionate and scientifically grounded – serving families in Central Florida and beyond.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road but I wouldn’t change a single thing.

Starting a business as a clinician means you’re suddenly wearing every hat: practitioner, marketer, accountant, scheduler, and strategist. There’s no blueprint, especially when you’re building something that doesn’t fit neatly into an existing box.

One of the biggest challenges has been navigating visibility. As behavior analysts, we’re trained to stay behind the data and not necessarily to promote ourselves. Putting my work out publicly, speaking about it confidently, and trusting that families would see the value required me to push past a lot of self-doubt.

There were also practical hurdles such as insurance systems, vendor approvals, financial uncertainty, and learning how to price services in a way that honors both accessibility and sustainability.

But every challenge sharpened the mission. It forced me to get clear about who I serve, what I offer, and why it matters. Growth rarely feels comfortable but it’s been deeply worth it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At Open Book Behavioral Tutoring, I specialize in bridging behavior and academics. I work primarily with elementary-aged children who may not qualify for intensive services but are still struggling with focus, executive functioning, emotional regulation, and completing schoolwork.

My background as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst allows me to approach learning through a behavioral lens. That means I’m not just asking, “Can this child do the work?” I’m asking, “What’s getting in the way?” I look at task initiation, frustration tolerance, organization, attention, and motivation and build systems that support the whole child.

I’m known for being both practical and data-driven. Families appreciate that the strategies I recommend are clear, structured, and realistic for real life. Teachers value that I understand the school environment and can collaborate effectively within it.

What sets me apart is that I blend clinical precision with everyday application. We might be working on reading fluency or math skills, but we’re also building independence, resilience, and confidence. It’s not just tutoring, and it’s not traditional therapy – it’s an integrated model that supports children academically and behaviorally at the same time.

What I’m most proud of is helping families feel empowered. When a parent tells me, “I finally understand what’s happening,” or a child begins to see themselves as capable – that’s the real success.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
There are several ways people can work with and support Open Book Behavioral Tutoring.

Families can work with me directly through behavioral tutoring, executive functioning support, parent coaching, and school collaboration. I also partner with schools to provide consultation and professional development, training educators in practical, classroom-ready strategies that support both students and staff.

For families who may not need ongoing services, I offer digital behavior guides designed to make evidence-based strategies simple and actionable. These guides break down common challenges like homework resistance, emotional outbursts, or difficulty with focus into clear, step-by-step tools parents can implement right away.

Professionals – including teachers, therapists, pediatricians, and school leaders – can collaborate through referrals, workshops, or joint programming. I strongly believe children thrive when the adults around them are aligned.

Supporting the work can also be as simple as sharing resources, referring families who may benefit from structured behavioral support, or inviting me to speak at parent or community events. My mission is to make behavioral science practical, accessible, and empowering.
