Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Teumer.
Hi Amy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My interest in mental health and psychology began during my adolescent years when I personally struggled with my own mental health and through my experience with therapy, I became curious about the human mind and the healing process. Taking an AP Psychology class in high school further ignited that interest and set me on the path toward pursuing a career in the mental health field.
I went on to earn my bachelor’s degree in Psychology and then my master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling. I have spent the past 20 years supporting individuals on their mental health journey. Early in my career, I worked across a variety of treatment settings including inpatient programs, residential treatment centers, community mental health agencies, therapeutic schools and camps, outpatient clinics, and group practices. These experiences allowed me to work with diverse populations and build a strong clinical foundation. Over the past 15 years, I have built and grown my own private practice in the Orlando area.
My clinical focus deepened when I became certified in Perinatal Mental Health, an ADHD Certified Clinical Services Provider, and an Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist. These specializations were shaped not only by my professional interests, but also by my personal experiences. After navigating my own perinatal mental health journey and later being identified as a neurodivergent woman and mom, I developed a deeper understanding of the unique challenges many women face with their mental health.
As a neurodivergent woman raising neurodivergent children with a neurodivergent partner, my passion for understanding ADHD, Autism, and AuDHD grew significantly. I became especially interested in late-identified adults, particularly women who are often overlooked, misunderstood, or misdiagnosed for years.
Many women do not discover their neurodivergence until major life transitions such as motherhood, burnout, or perimenopause, when the coping strategies they relied on earlier in life stop working. This realization led me to pursue advanced certifications and specialized training so I could better support this population through both therapy and coaching.
Today, I focus on helping individuals unmask, reclaim their identity, and thrive after receiving an ADHD or Autism diagnosis. I provide virtual ADHD and Autism evaluations specifically designed for high-masking, late-identified individuals who have often been overlooked by traditional assessment models.
In addition to evaluations, I offer online therapy and coaching services to help clients better understand their neurodivergent brains, process years of masking and misunderstanding, and build lives that align with how they truly function and thrive.
Beyond my clinical work, I am passionate about community education and advocacy. I share educational content and resources through my social media platforms and online community, helping increase awareness about neurodivergence, especially in women and mothers. I have also participated in podcast discussions and community initiatives that promote authenticity, mental health awareness, and connection.
I believe that when people finally understand their brains and their lived experiences, it opens the door to self-compassion, empowerment, and a more authentic way of living.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like many entrepreneurs and clinicians, my journey has not been without challenges. Building a private practice required learning many skills that were never taught in graduate school, from running a business and developing systems to marketing and finding my authentic voice as a clinician and entrepreneur. Much of this process was self-taught and required learning through experience.
At the same time, I was navigating my own personal growth, balancing motherhood, managing my own mental health, and eventually discovering my own neurodivergence later in life. These experiences deepened my empathy and strengthened my commitment to creating spaces where people can show up fully as themselves.
Through both my professional training and lived experience, I strive to create a practice where clients feel understood, supported, and empowered to move toward a life that feels more authentic and aligned with who they truly are.
We’ve been impressed with Amy Teumer Counseling Services, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Qualified Supervisor (LMHC-QS) in the State of Florida with 20 years of experience in the mental health filed. I am certified in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C), an ADHD Certified Clinical Services Provider, (ADHD-CCSP) and an Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist (ASDCS).
My therapy and coaching practice in Orlando supports neurodivergent individuals in their journey of unmasking, reclaiming their identity, and thriving. I offer online therapy and coaching services to help clients better understand their neurodivergent brains, process years of masking and misunderstanding, and build lives that align with how they truly function and thrive.
I also provide virtual ADHD and Autism evaluations specifically designed for high-masking, late-identified individuals who have often been overlooked by traditional assessment models.
What makes my practice unique is my combination of clinical expertise with personal lived experience as a neurodivergent woman, mom and wife.
What’s next?
I plan to continue expanding my practice to reach more individuals who can benefit from therapy, coaching, and specialized evaluations.
My goal is to collaborate with more providers in the community to strengthen referral networks and create a more supportive system of care for neurodivergent and high-masking individuals.
I am passionate about offering accessible education, resources, and support not only through my clinical work, but also through community partnerships and online platforms.
Through continued advocacy, education, and collaboration, I hope to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and help more individuals feel seen, understood, and empowered to thrive.
