Inspiring Conversations with Becca Carrigan of Glamour & Grind

Today we’d like to introduce you to Becca Carrigan.

Hi Becca, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In high school (Boone High School) Becca took TV production all four years. After she graduated she went to USF St Petersburg campus where initially she studied Mass Communications but they didn’t have video so she started to focus more on photography. Her junior year she transferred to the main (Tampa) campus to study Humanities and Cultural study with a concentration in film and new media studies but she quickly realized that the program was dedicated to watching other people’s films while she was much more focused on creating her own videos. Instead of falling behind in school from switching majors again she decided to drop the concentration and add a certificate of visualization and design and focus on building her resume. She volunteered with the Warehouse Arts District Association and had an internship with Tampa Bay Business For Culture and The Arts while also working for the USFSP Connect Media Team. The semester before graduating she realized if she took one more design class she could minor in Mass Communications as well, so she did. In total throughout college she studied video, photography and graphic design.

When she first decided she was interested in opening her own business she initially thought she wanted a marketing firm but the idea intimidated her. So, instead she decided to be a wedding coordinator because she realized from watching her cousin get married and helping her pick her photographer that even though the wedding coordinator she used provided a preferred vendor list she knew absolutely nothing about photography. She felt with my knowledge she would be able to provide brides with suggestions on design related vendors that would be the best fit for them. The only problem was shortly into starting her business and working with brides she realized she absolutely hated working with Brides. By this point she had already accidentally marketed herself to do what she loved, helping business owners build their portfolios while simultaneously building their network and their business! By the time she realized this she went from being a one woman show to being able to promote her life partner (my boyfriend, Spencer) to business partner!

The main thing that we focus on is creating Styled Shoots, photo shoots to create marketing materials that their clients not only adore but also can relate to. This means we use real couples as models! We are also all inclusive, it doesn’t matter where you’re from, what size you are, who you love or the color of your skin. We have a dress rental collection that goes up to size 18 but we are always looking for dresses that would be good additions to expand with! Some other names for the shoots we put on are: content days, editorial shoots, styled sessions, staged wedding or shootout. Although the idea of a marketing firm intimidated her essentially, in the end, marketing is what she now specializes in. Specifically she specializes in the marketing content creation!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Before covid we were so busy we could hardly keep up. Since covid it has really been up and down because our events are so social! We group our photographers in groups on five and for every group we have a couple or what we call a high fashion bride or solo bride.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Aesthetically the only thing warm about our branding is our attitude. We are always ready to welcome new creative into our community. We are focused not only on the concept of community over competition but on building communities though education and networking. We are known for being creative, business focused and ready to help others. We have worked hard to make a brand that stands out and has led to referrals all around the country. Our Facebook community has passed 3400 members and has photographers and other wedding vendors from around the world.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Most people don’t realize that Becca can shoot. Because she has worked so hard to ensure the focus of the shoots is building other people’s portfolios people often assume that she can’t shoot.
