Check Out Renita Hunt’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Renita Hunt.

Hi Renita, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I seriously thought I would be living my passion life of empowering others when I was 60 years old. Guess what?? I am not 60 and I am living my passion now! I am a seasoned empowerment speaker, nonprofit leader and marketing communications executive. My professional career started as being personal receptionist at 19 for media mogul, Ted Turner. Throughout my career I have worked on iconic advertising and marketing projects for such brands as Home Depot, Ford, Coca-Cola, and McDonald’s to name a few. I have always been extremely passionate about women empowerment and fashion. After relocating to Orlando from Atlanta for my husband’s job, I took time to find my girl tribe by volunteering at Dress for Success Greater Orlando. I started as a weekly personal shopper.

After being asked to attend a board meeting due to my ideas in the boutique. The board asked me to become the Events Director. After being in the role for a year, the board voted me to be the Vice- President of the organization and then became board President. After being President for over four years, the organization needed onsite leadership. After a two year search the Board paused search, then the global pandemic hit. The board voted for me to assume the role of Executive Director to move the organization forward during this uncertain time. Ten years in the making and now I am fully working in my purpose of women and fashion. I am grateful to serve the community of Orlando and our clients. I am thankful for the many ladies and men who have served alongside me, especially our committed past and present board members.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Life is full of challenges but it is all working together for the good. I have been volunteering with Dress for Success Greater Orlando board for 10 years. Through those 10 years, I took off a year off of working a full time paid position with benefits to a non-paid position to steer this organization forward. It was hard work but the organization was positioned to navigate through this uncertain time better than it would have 10 years ago. The pandemic has given Dress for Success Greater Orlando the chance to pivot in a big way to get to the next level. We have had to digitally transform our business processes and reinvent how we do business to better serve our clients. I am excited to see what happens next!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
In addition to being Executive Director, I am a women’s career empowerment speaker who speaks at many women’s conferences locally and across the nation. I also still use my marketing skills with a few small business clients as a social media consultant. In my free time, I invest in several businesses and assets with my husband. Lastly, but most important I am momager (mom+manager) for my son- Sheppard @sheppardthegreat as he grows his acting/modeling, author, and sports career. Follow me @socialnita on IG to keep up with all that going on.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
GOD! My family the wind beneath my wings-husband, parents, and the one and only Sheppard. Thank you to all the volunteers, interns, donors, event attendees, supports staff of Dress for Success Greater Orlando. BIG thank you to the past and present board members who helped to build this organization to what it is today. Thank you to my mentors, friends, and the women of Orlando who inspire me daily!
