Hi Nesara, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in a small town, we didn’t have a lot growing up. My childhood wasn’t always easy, and there were a lot of things I quietly observed growing up that shaped the person I wanted to become. In many ways, I learned just as much from what I knew I wanted to do differently as I did from the things I wanted to carry with me. My dad is an incredibly hard worker, and his work ethic is something that stayed with me, he always said to “stay in school and never give up”. Those early years taught me resilience, independence, and that the life you come from doesn’t have to determine the life you create.
I’ve now been in the hair industry for over 26 years, and what started as a career I loved eventually became something much bigger. Revolutions Hair Studio was a dream that my husband, my family, and I built together from the ground up. There is something especially meaningful to me about being able to say that because I know where I started. My husband and family have stood beside me through the long days, sacrifices, uncertainty, and every crazy idea along the way. Revolutions wasn’t handed to us. We built it together, piece by piece, and our family’s heart is in every part of it.
Community has also become a huge part of who I am. I genuinely love being involved and giving back, whether that’s through the salon, supporting other small businesses, community outreach, serving on community boards and events, or running a women’s softball league called A League of our own Atheltics. I’ve learned that sometimes making an impact has nothing to do with how big your platform is—it’s simply about showing up for people. I wanted Revolutions to reflect that same feeling. It isn’t just a place to get your hair done. I want people to walk through our doors and feel welcomed, encouraged, supported, and like they belong.
When I look at my life today, I think that little girl from a small town who quietly watched everything around her would be proud. I didn’t come from much, and I didn’t have a perfect example of what life was supposed to look like. I just knew there were things I wanted to do differently. Today, I have a family that helped me build my dream, a career I still love after more than 26 years, and the opportunity to give back to a community that has given so much to me. Revolutions represents so much more than a business to me—it represents what can happen when you decide that where you started doesn’t get to decide where you finish. And I still feel like we’re just getting started.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road, but I think the challenges are part of what makes me appreciate where we are today even more. Owning a small business comes with a lot of responsibility, and there are so many things you learn along the way that no one can really prepare you for. Building and maintaining a team, navigating the ups and downs of the industry, balancing family and business, and learning to adapt when things don’t go according to plan have all been part of the journey.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that you can’t be afraid of change. There have been moments when I’ve had to make difficult decisions, start over in certain areas, or completely rethink what I thought the next chapter would look like. There are days when being a business owner can feel overwhelming, but those are also the moments that have pushed me to grow the most.
Through all of it, my family, my team, my clients, and our community have been an incredible source of support. Every challenge has taught me something and made me more determined to protect the atmosphere and vision we’ve worked so hard to create. I’ve learned that success isn’t necessarily having a perfectly smooth road—it’s continuing to move forward, staying true to yourself, and remembering why you started in the first place.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in color, blonding, cutting, and color corrections, but I’ve learned over the years that what I do is about so much more than hair. Of course, I love helping someone look in the mirror and feel beautiful, but even more than that, I love being able to encourage and empower the people who sit in my chair.
As a stylist, you’re invited into so many different chapters of people’s lives. One day, I may be helping someone feel confident before walking into an interview for a new job. The next, I’m doing someone’s hair for their wedding or celebrating a huge milestone with them. And sometimes, I’m simply there to listen and offer a little comfort when someone has lost a person they love or is going through one of the hardest seasons of their life. You laugh together, cry together, celebrate together, and grow together. That connection is what has always made this career so special to me.
At Revolutions Hair Studio, I’m especially proud of the atmosphere we’ve created. I never wanted a salon that felt intimidating or like you had to be a certain type of person to walk through the door. I wanted it to be a place where you can come as you are, relax, laugh, feel comfortable, and know that you belong. We’re a small salon—myself, another stylist, and a nail tech—and I think that allows us to keep that personal, welcoming feeling.
What I believe really sets Revolutions apart is our heart. We’re a small, family-built business that truly cares about the people who walk through our doors and the community around us. Giving back, supporting other local businesses, encouraging others, and being involved in our community are incredibly important to me.
I’m proud of the recognition we’ve received over the years, but what I’m most proud of can’t really be measured by an award. It’s the relationships I’ve built, the trust people have placed in me, and knowing that sometimes I’ve been able to make someone’s day a little brighter or help them feel a little stronger. Hair may be what brings someone through our door, but being there for people is really what it’s all about.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I wouldn’t say there is one specific book, podcast, or app that I live by. For me, my greatest resources have always been the people around me, continuing to educate myself, and being open to learning and growing.
After more than 26 years in this industry, I’ve learned that you never really stop being a student. Trends change, techniques change, and business changes, so I’m constantly learning—whether that’s through continuing education, other professionals in the beauty industry, social media, or simply listening to the people around me.
Outside of work, my family and my community probably inspire me the most. I believe there is something to learn from everyone you meet, and sometimes the best motivation comes from watching people overcome challenges, support one another, and keep moving forward. I try to surround myself with people who encourage growth and positivity, and I hope I can be that same kind of person for others.
More than anything, I try to stay grounded in my purpose: keep learning, work hard, treat people well, give back when I can, and leave people feeling a little better than when I found them.
