Life & Work with Rose Compere of Orlando

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rose Compere.

Hi Rose, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my event planning journey in New York in 2003, at a time when many people didn’t really know what an event coordinator or planner was. It all started when my cousin got engaged. She said, “You always do parties!” and she decided I would be her event coordinator. I began attending meetings with her, touring venues, helping her with the budget, and coordinating the details, especially because she and her fiancé didn’t speak English. At the time, I honestly didn’t know exactly what I was doing. I just knew that I loved creating.

What started as coordinating one family wedding gradually grew into planning events and parties and eventually promoting my own business. My first wedding was in New York in 2003, followed by another client in 2004. Later, I moved to Florida, where a friend asked me to coordinate her wedding. That became my first wedding in Florida and opened the door to a new chapter in my event-planning journey.

Over the years, my passion continued to grow not just for planning events, but for creating beautiful experiences, watching everything come together, and seeing the joy on people’s faces when they walked into an event I helped plan and coordinate or a venue, I designed and decorated.

What began with my cousin simply saying, “You always do parties,” turned into so much more than I ever imagined. It became a passion, then a business, and eventually a career that continues to grow and bring me so much joy over the years.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road. Haha! I had to learn so many lessons along the way. But I’m so grateful for every one of them. They have all helped shape me into the business owner I am today.

In the beginning of my business, I struggled with saying no and often found myself trying to please everyone, even when their vision and budget didn’t align. I would constantly find myself trying to make everything work.

I often found myself “underpromising and overdelivering”, and looking back, I realize that sometimes I wasn’t valuing my own work enough to make better decisions. But that’s just who I am. I genuinely want to help people and see their vision come to life.

Over time, though, I’ve learned that helping others doesn’t mean compromising my own value. I’ve learned the importance of setting boundaries, standing confidently behind my pricing, and making sure the value of my time, creativity, and work is respected. Those lessons have truly shaped the business owner I am today.

At the same time, I can honestly say that some of those experiences helped me build long-term relationships. Many of the clients I’ve worked with over the years have become more than just clients. They’ve become close friends, and some have even become like family. You simply can’t put a price on that.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a seasoned event planner, coordinator, and venue designer/decorator. I’ve been doing this for over 10 years. I’m known for transforming spaces. I love planning events, decorating venues, coordinating events, and bringing my clients’ visions to life.

What I’m most proud of is the growth of my business and the relationships I’ve built along the way. Through my work, I’ve had the opportunity to meet and build relationships with so many amazing people in the event industry, and those connections have become an important part of my journey.

I believe what sets me apart is simply being open, authentic, and adaptable. I’m not afraid to look at the bigger picture and find creative solutions when things don’t go exactly as planned.

I’m also very honest with my clients. Sometimes their vision and their budget don’t necessarily align, and I believe in having those hard conversations with them rather than simply telling them what they want to hear. My goal is to help them find a way to achieve the look and experience they want while staying realistic about their budget.

For me, it’s about creating something beautiful while making sure my clients feel heard, valued, and excited about their event.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
You’re going to learn along the way, and that’s okay. Building a business is a process. You will learn something new every day, and you have to be willing to grow, change, and adjust.

I wish I understood this earlier that I didn’t have to have everything figured out before I started. Sometimes you just have to take that first step, learn from the experience, and keep moving forward.

Thank you so much for this opportunity and for allowing me to share my story!
