Today we’d like to introduce you to Athrina Juman.
Hi Athrina, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey in the beauty industry began over 15 years ago, when I started my career at 23. I had the incredible opportunity to spend nine years working with MAC, where I developed my artistry, learned the importance of working with every skin tone and complexion, and truly fell in love with helping women feel confident and beautiful.
Over the years, I continued building my skills in makeup artistry, bridal beauty, brows, threading, lamination, tinting, and permanent makeup. I eventually took that experience and passion and continued to build my brand Imperial Complexions—a luxury beauty brand focused on making women feel seen, confident, and beautifully themselves.
After moving from Toronto to Florida, I made the decision to rebuild my clientele and business from the ground up. Starting over in a new place was challenging, but it also gave me the opportunity to redefine what I wanted Imperial Complexions to represent. Today, I offer a one-stop luxury beauty experience specializing in makeup, bridal beauty, hair, brows, and specialized brow services, including my Halal Brows concept.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, and I think that’s what makes the journey so meaningful. One of my biggest challenges was moving from Toronto to Florida and having to essentially rebuild my clientele and my business from the ground up. I had spent years establishing myself and building relationships with clients, so starting over in a new state was both exciting and intimidating.
There have also been the normal challenges that come with being an entrepreneur—financial investments, unexpected setbacks, learning how to market myself in a new market, and balancing the business with being a wife and mother. There were moments when things didn’t go according to plan, and times when I questioned whether I was making the right decisions.
But every setback taught me something. It pushed me to become more adaptable, more intentional with my business, and more confident in my vision. I’ve learned that success isn’t always about having a perfect journey; sometimes it’s about continuing to show up, even when things are difficult. Those challenges have shaped Imperial Complexions into what it is today and continue to motivate me to keep growing.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I offer everything from soft, natural glam to full glam and bridal makeup, along with brow services including ombré powder brows, microblading, brow lamination, tinting, threading, waxing, and my signature Halal Brows service.
One of the things I’m most proud of is creating Halal Brows. As a Muslim woman, I wanted to create a brow service that offered Muslim women another option without removing the brow hair through plucking, threading, or waxing. It’s a service rooted in both beauty and purpose, while still being accessible to anyone who prefers a no-hair-removal approach.
What sets Imperial Complexions apart is that I’m not just focused on the finished look—I care about the entire experience. I want every client to feel comfortable, understood, and confident when they leave my chair. I’ve built my business around luxury, artistry, inclusivity, and attention to detail, and I’m proud that Imperial Complexions continues to evolve while staying true to those values.
Ultimately, I’m most proud of the fact that I’ve been able to turn something I genuinely love into a business that empowers other women and continues to grow even after having to start over in a completely new market.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories is growing up surrounded by family and the feeling of togetherness that came with it. Some of my happiest memories are the simple ones—being around my family, celebrating special occasions, laughing together, and creating traditions that I didn’t realize would mean so much to me later in life.
Looking back, I think what makes those memories so special is that they remind me of where I came from and the importance of family, connection, and creating meaningful moments. Those values have carried with me into adulthood and even into the way I approach my businesses and the experiences I create for others.
