Today we’d like to introduce you to Talia Oré.
Hi Talia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Born and raised in Miami, my work is heavily influenced by the vibrancy of the subtropical city. I was so young I don’t even remember when the first time I created something really was. It depends on your definition of “artwork,” I suppose. I think we are all born creators. It is embedded into the purpose of life. To exist and then perpetuate/facilitate future existence. Let’s just say in terms of strictly painting… the moment I realized I was “good” (for being so young, that meant when I started receiving recognition), I was around 7-10 years old. I devise detailed and rich images that articulate my personal evolution through surreal imagery. Throughout the years, the scale of my oil paintings has grown larger and larger as I gain affluence with the medium. Often times I am juxtaposing fantastical figures with various aspects of reality in an attempt to bridge the two worlds. It is my hope that my body of work opens the minds of my audience enough so that they may recognize the beauty in the strange and unknown while pushing them to reflect on what it means to become aware of your own dark yet wondrous dreams.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Growth isn’t linear. Just as I am maturing through all aspects of life, my art career includes learning curves. I have learned to respect my boundaries in order to find where exactly I fit into the “art world”. Not all avenues are “one-way roads,” and many branch off as there are numerous ways to reach your destination. I think one of the greatest realizations I’ve had has been to listen to my “inner artist”, and to honor my resolution to remain authentic. This has saved me so much stress, and has opened many doors.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in painting. Oil is my favorite medium. I’m probably most known for the way I combine chiaroscuro and bright colors into my surreal imagery. My work centralizes around the theme of duality and the balance between light+dark. I utilize my pallet to reinforce this concept. What sets my work apart from others seems to be the magnetic pull my pieces have on my audience. Suddenly, what was once dark and unknown about the dreamscape becomes the very thing that excites the curiosity and imagination of the viewer, which is precisely my goal.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I like to challenge myself through exploring new mediums beyond traditional paint, trying to push myself to make pieces that are not representative. Widening my mind to concepts that are beyond my immediate personal experiences by researching global topics. My soul yearns to create images that aren’t seen as “traditional or derivative,” so I’d say yes, I am a risk-taker when it comes to my art. I paint what I need to express regardless of whether it’s safe.
