Conversations with Lyanna Rose

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lyanna Rose.

Lyanna , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was introduced to the beauty industry at a young age by my grandmother, who was both a seamstress and cosmetologist. She taught me that creativity had no limits and inspired me to express myself unapologetically. I started by experimenting with my own hair, convinced I would become a hairstylist one day. That passion eventually evolved into makeup, especially during the rise of YouTube beauty creators. I spent countless hours studying techniques, practicing on myself, and dreaming of one day becoming a MAC Makeup Artist.

My first step into the industry was as a seasonal associate at Sephora, but I knew it was only the beginning. Soon after, I achieved my goal of becoming a MAC Makeup Artist. When MAC partnered with Ulta Beauty, I helped launch one of Orlando’s grand opening locations, where I built an incredible clientele. I became a go-to makeup artist for the Dr. Phillips community, specializing in bridal, gala, and special event makeup. As my clientele grew, I began taking private bookings, traveling for makeup applications, and eventually launched my own business.

Wanting to expand my artistry, I enrolled in school to become a licensed Full Specialist, adding esthetics and nail services to my skill set. After graduating, I opened a home studio where I offered makeup and nail services.

Then the world changed. When COVID hit, makeup appointments came to a halt. Like many others, I found myself wearing a mask every day while performing nail services, and I began struggling with severe “maskne.” That personal experience completely shifted my perspective. As businesses reopened and makeup services returned, I realized I had discovered a new passion—not covering skin with makeup, but helping people heal it.

Around that time, my cousin, who’s more like a sister to me, invited me to join her in opening a storefront for her esthetics business. That opportunity became the beginning of Glow with Lyanna. Today, I’m a licensed esthetician in downtown Orlando specializing in acne, hyperpigmentation, and skin resurfacing treatments. While skincare has become the heart of my career, I continue to nurture my love for makeup by collaborating with local photographers as a makeup artist and upload makeup content on my social platforms. Looking back, every chapter of my career has built on the last. What began as a love for beauty has grown into a passion for helping people feel confident in their own skin while continuing to celebrate creativity in all its forms.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every obstacle has pushed me toward the career I’m meant to have. One of the biggest challenges came during the COVID pandemic. My business was centered around makeup artistry, and almost overnight, makeup applications disappeared. As someone who had spent years building a clientele and reputation in the industry, it was a scary and uncertain time.

Ironically, that challenge became the turning point in my career. While performing nail services in a mask every day, I developed severe “maskne.” What started as a personal struggle quickly became an obsession with understanding skin health. I realized I didn’t just want to help people feel beautiful with makeup—I wanted to help them feel confident in their bare skin.

Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve also faced the challenge of constantly evolving. I’ve had to reinvent myself more than once, step outside of my comfort zone, continue investing in my education, and trust that every pivot was leading me somewhere greater. Building a business requires resilience, especially in an industry that’s always changing.

Looking back, I don’t see those moments as setbacks anymore. They were redirections. They taught me that success isn’t about holding onto one version of yourself—it’s about being willing to grow, adapt, and embrace new opportunities. Today, I get to combine my love for artistry with results-driven skincare, and I truly believe I wouldn’t be where I am without those challenges.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a makeup artist, licensed esthetician, and lifestyle content creator based in downtown Orlando. I specialize in corrective skincare while continuing to work in makeup and creative projects. Through my work, I love blending beauty, creativity, and storytelling to help people feel confident, inspired, and comfortable being themselves.

What were you like growing up?
