Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Dang.
Hi Jennifer, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in the nail industry. As a little girl, I spent every day after school at our family salon, watching my mom work, being surrounded by creativity, and meeting amazing people from all walks of life.
I started doing nails at a young age and quickly realized that I loved so much more than just the art behind it. I loved the people we get to cross paths with, the relationships we build, and being able to make someone feel beautiful no matter what phase of life they’re in.
Eventually, I expanded into permanent makeup and fell in love with that craft too. That’s when I realized it was never one specific service or craft that I loved most. It was creating, connecting with people, and making them feel beautiful.
Becoming an independent artist feels like such a full circle moment. I went from being the little girl growing up in my mom’s salon to having a space where I can create in my own way and build a business that reflects who I am as an artist. It’s given me the freedom to show up for my business, my clients, and most importantly, my family. I love that the career I grew up around has become something I’ve been able to make entirely my own.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not. I think one of the biggest challenges has been learning how to grow a business while also growing through different seasons of life. I’ve had seasons where business was thriving and seasons where things slowed down and made me question what I was doing.
Becoming a wife and a mom also changed what success looked like for me. I didn’t just want a successful business. I wanted a career that allowed me to be present for my family too. Learning how to balance being an artist, business owner, wife, mom, and still make time for myself has probably been one of the hardest parts.
Stepping out on my own as an independent artist was another leap of faith. There’s a lot of uncertainty that comes with working for yourself, but it has pushed me to trust myself and redefine success in a way that works for my life. I’m still figuring it out as I go, and I think that’s part of the journey.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in builder gel, Gel x, nail art, and permanent makeup. I’m very detail oriented and love creating work that feels customized to each client rather than one size fits all.
What I’m most proud of are the relationships I’ve built along the way. Many of my clients have been with me for years, and that trust means everything to me. I think what sets me apart is that I care just as much about the experience and connection as I do the finished work.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My family makes me the happiest. Being present for the little everyday moments with them means more to me than anything. I also genuinely love creating, whether it’s through my work, a new project, or just bringing an idea to life. I think I’m happiest when I’m surrounded by the people I love, creating something, and still making time to enjoy the life I’ve worked so hard to build.
