Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Whittemore.
Hi Sarah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Growing up in Greensboro, NC, I always knew I wanted to sing. From choral music to jazz trios, I developed my passion for performing at a young age. When I moved to Orlando, FL in 2006 with my husband, Scott, my career opened up in a new and exciting way. I felt that if I worked hard and dedicated myself to my craft, I could hopefully make a living doing what I love!
For the past 14 years, I’ve called Central Florida my home, working diligently to establish myself as a premier live and studio vocalist. From singing with The Voices of Liberty at EPCOT to touring internationally with the a cappella group, Voctave, to debuting as a soloist at Carnegie Hall, these opportunities, among others, have all played a part in my musical journey.
I also love singing in the studio and recording in a variety of styles and genres. From jingles to choral demos to theme park parades and shows, I can truly say that being in the studio is my happy place. Recently, I had the great honor of recording a solo for the “EPCOT FOREVER” fireworks show. I can, without a doubt, say that magical opportunity remains one I will always cherish.
My most recent endeavor marked a professional milestone and a true dream fulfilled. On February 5th, 2021, I released my debut solo EP, “Love Song.” It debuted #1 on the iTunes jazz charts and furnished a long-awaited moment to showcase my vocal jazz bona fides. I am so grateful for the positive response it has received, and I can’t wait to dive into my next project.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I feel that I echo many of my colleagues when I say that 2020 threw the arts community a pretty massive curveball. At times, the mountain just felt too big to climb. Simple things became gargantuan challenges. I neared the end of last year and told myself, “I am not letting this situation define me.” Out of my doubts, my fears, my insecurities came my EP. My first solo project. A project that I can unequivocally say was born out of love. For that, I am so grateful, and I have honestly gained a new sense of self-love and self-respect.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
What I hope I offer is a sense of professionalism and unique talent to the projects I take on. My goal in any musical pursuit is to deliver an exceptional product that is not only technically impressive but most importantly, one that moves audiences. I’ve spent over 20 years crafting and refining my signature sound, and I intend for my voice to ring true in both live and studio venues. As I continue to expand and promote “Sarah Whittemore Vocals,” I am integrating and extending my artistry towards vocal production, composition, and coaching. I’m really excited to see where this next wave of inspiration leads. I want my music to mean something very real to those who listen. I pray it can make a difference and leave folks with a lasting smile on their face.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I’ve learned one really important lesson, “DON”T GIVE UP.” Believe in yourself. Dream it up, then DO IT.
