Conversations with Tony Laiacona

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tony Laiacona of Laiacona Photography & Design.

Hi Tony, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started taking pictures as a kid because my dad had a camera and was always taking pictures on our travels. In high school art class, we made cameras out of oatmeal cans and cardboard boxes and enjoyed experimenting in the darkroom. From there, I studied graphic design in college, which lead me to needing photos for various projects. I figured it was easier to take the photos myself rather than trying to find them online. Jump forward quite a few years, I got a job working for a video production studio where I learned my cinematography skills. After that, a friend of mine introduced me to a wedding photographer who became my mentor. I worked under him for a few years until I ventured out on my own. And that’s when Laiacona Photography & Design was born!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Part of the journey is those bumps along the way. We relocated our family and the business to Orlando from South Florida in the middle of the pandemic, which has been challenging in many ways. Luckily, the community here has embraced us with open arms and we look forward to what’s to come.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have extensive experience in photography, videography, and graphic design. My portfolio includes weddings, real estate, family & maternity, headshots, automotive, luxury, website design, and much more! I am also an FAA-certified drone pilot. I am most proud my Star Wars toy collection and my children. What sets me apart from others is my ability to cross many different creative mediums.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My biggest supporter and cheerleader has always been my wife, Jenn. Since we started dating, she has always believed in me and pushed me to the next level. At one point, I was on the verge of taking a job in a completely different industry. She knew I would never be happy and encouraged me to pursue my passion and never give up.

I was also fortunate enough to have two mentors throughout the years, one who introduced me to wedding industry and the other who trained me in studio photography. Thanks to these two, I was able to learn ways to apply different techniques and photography styles to my business.
