Daily Inspiration: Meet Tori Camera

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tori Camera.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m Tori Camera, a photographer and filmmaker based in Central Florida. My earliest memories revolve around my interest and genuine passion for the arts. Drawing, painting, sculpting, music, acting… you name it, I’ve tried it! For years I’ve enjoyed learning and creating with countless mediums, but photography has always been my constant.

I’ve been photographing the beautiful people in my life since my days in high school when I would steal my mom’s Sony Cyber-shot for spontaneous photoshoots with friends. When my family would travel out of town, I was the one to document the trip. If I was bored at home, I’d make silly music videos in my backyard or take self-portraits in my bedroom. I loved creating so much that when it came time for me to go to college, it never crossed my mind to study anything other than art. I’ve completed multiple degrees in Fine Art and Photography, ultimately receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Photography from the University of Central Florida.

As a photographer and filmmaker, I get to fulfill my dream of having a creative career and getting to spend my days making art. Capturing the spontaneous and genuine and telling a story through portraiture and videography is my passion, but the most rewarding aspect of what I do is seeing the joy my work brings to everyone who stands in front of my camera. It was my innate desire to create that led me to pursue a career in the arts, but it’s my love of people that inspires me to continue what I do. From weddings and portraits to collaborative projects with fellow creatives, it’s connecting with other that makes what I do all the more fulfilling.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Looking back, I’m extremely proud of how far I’ve come. With a lot of determination and an amazing support system of friends and family, I’m pretty fortunate to be where I’m at now. However, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing. Aside from the typical challenges that come with being a young adult, working multiple jobs and attending college full time, I’d have to say my biggest obstacle has been self-doubt. Even to this day, I can get overwhelmed and question everything. But the reality is that I’ve accomplished so much already, and with every new leg of this journey, I’m constantly learning and growing. That’s what it’s really all about!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in weddings and portraiture, with both photography and videography. To me, what I do isn’t about creating high production perfection; it’s about capturing genuine emotions. It’s always my goal to have the people in front of my camera be as comfortable and natural as possible. I don’t want them to feel stiff and posed; I want movement, action, laughter. Our session should be a fun and enjoyable experience that helps create beautiful memories for me to capture.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I believe that much of my success comes from my determination and work ethic. About ten years ago, when I was first starting college, I knew I wanted to own my own business and pursue a creative career. So I started setting goals, making a plan, and following through with action. I didn’t look at college as a necessary evil, it was a business investment and I look back fondly on those days. It was a lot of hard work, but I found the experience to be fulfilling and enjoyable because I was studying the things that I loved and surrounding myself with a community of fellow creatives.

By creating a habit of setting goals and making plans early on, I’ve been able to now translate that to other aspects of my life and business.
