Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharon Rojo.
Hi Sharon, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Brow and Beauty was born during a time in my life where I felt lost and unfulfilled. I was in a career that I liked but felt like I was only in because it was where the expectations of life had taken me. I grew up in a household where education and having a good profession where the expectation. So after high school, I went on to get my Bachelor’s and then my Master’s and ended up becoming a mental health therapist. I have always enjoyed helping people but, after spending five years in mental health, I started getting the feeling that maybe I was meant to do something different. The idea of leaving my career was scary. Having to start over and figure out my purpose was overwhelming. But I had gotten to a place where I told myself that I could continue to stay in a career where I felt unfulfilled for the rest of my life or I could take a big leap of faith and take a chance on myself to find my purpose.
I was approaching my 34th birthday during this time, and my sister had gotten me a gift certificate for microblading. I had always felt insecure about my eyebrows because they were very thin from years of overplucking them. I was coloring them in every day and was over it. I am also a mom of two so anything I could do to help cut my morning routine in the morning was worth it. I was so happy that my sister had helped me find a solution for my brow problems. However, the more that I started looking into microblading, the more I got turned off by it. The results didn’t look natural; I was not a good candidate for it because I have oily skin, and it’s an invasive procedure. It was in that moment that I discovered powder brows.
I fell in love with powder brows right away! It was the brow solution I had been dreaming about. No more brow makeup! I found an artist that specialized in the service, booked an appointment right away, and had an amazing experience with the procedure. It was in that very moment that I knew this is what I wanted to do. I wanted to share this beauty secret with everyone out there that has struggled with their brows and was over having to color them every day. I couldn’t wait to get started. Within three months, I quit my career as a therapist, took powder brow courses, got my tattoo license, and opened my studio (Brow and Beauty). It was the best decision! The truth is beauty had always been my passion but I never had the space to explore it as a possible career until that moment. I have a rewarding career as a cosmetic tattoo artist now. I get to interact with amazing, inspiring women that I am honored to call my clients. And I get to help women by providing a service that helps boost their confidence and helps them feel good.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was certainly not a smooth road and there are still challenges that come up regularly as an entrepreneur. My family, friends, and husband thought I was crazy when I first told them I was leaving my career as a therapist to do cosmetic tattooing. So having a support system was difficult at first. Branding myself on social media was also a challenge. I had to be creative and go out of my comfort zone to market myself and sell my services to others which is hard to do when you are an introvert. It was also challenging, and still is at times, to have to get used to not having a secure income. But I am grateful for these challenges because they literally fuel my desire to be a successful entrepreneur. I want my kids to be proud of their mother and I want to leave a legacy for them. My husband is also a huge inspiration in my most challenging moments. He is the most hardworking person I know and in the moments where I feel defeated, I think of him and I push through. Remembering your “why” is always necessary in the moments when self-doubt and challenges come up.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a cosmetic tattoo artist that specializes in powder brows. Powder brows, also known as ombre brows, is a new-semi permanent brow technique that creates a soft, powdered look that subtly fills in your brows. Powder brows is a 2-step process that consists of an initial session and a touch-up session. They last about 1-3 years, depending on your skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare. I am really proud of the community I have built within Brow and Beauty. I have so much love and support around me that I am truly grateful for.
What matters most to you? Why?
I pride myself in giving my clients exceptional customer service. I love interacting with my clients and growing relationships with them. Most of them are also mothers and success-driven women so it’s great when we can interact with one another and empower each other. I pride myself in offering a service to women that boost their confidence and helps them feel good. And my family is my driving force behind it all.
