Hi Julie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
As an adult, I found myself in the situation of not having quality health insurance. It was a scary situation where something like a simple ear infection would turn into a $200 bill. I felt that this was not fair! Why is health care so expensive and why aren’t there fairly priced options for health care for the uninsured? It was at that moment that I realized I would start a Direct Primary Care practice. No Copays, No Deductibles, and No Hassles!
I created an innovative practice simplifying the way primary care is delivered by connecting our patients directly to the doctor. Our affordable doctor visits eliminate the need for deductibles, copays, and complicated insurance billing. By removing administrative barriers, we can dedicate more time and attention directly to our patients for a very reasonable amount.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
So far, it has been a pretty smooth road as we have been blessed with a wonderful team of professionals that work together to deliver the best patient care. Everyone has the same sense of passion and responsibility to our patients. There truly is no challenge or obstacle that we cannot overcome as a team!
We’ve been impressed with DeLand Wellness Center, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Opening our business at the height of the pandemic was a risk. However, we kept very busy focusing on COVID-19 testing. Our clinic has become the COVID testing “hub,” seeing patients from all over central Florida. We offer Rapid Antigen testing, PCR testing with guaranteed quick turnaround times, and Antibody testing. On average, several hundred people get tested for COVID-19 monthly at DeLand Wellness Center. We also work with private businesses and offer competitive rates for COVID-19 testing to keep their employees safe.
Through the pandemic, I suffered from increased anxiety and sleep deprivation and nothing seemed to help. My doctor prescribed anti-anxiety medications that would leave me feeling hollow and not like myself. The sleep medications made me feel forgetful and groggy during the day. This led me to do research into Medical Marijuana, where I discovered all the wonderful benefits it provided.
Once I began taking Medical Marijuana as prescribed and as needed. I started to feel less anxiety-ridden and I finally started to experience a full night’s sleep waking up completely refreshed. In fact, I started to feel much more focused and my anxiety levels had almost gone away. I thought, wow! People need to be given natural options and not become dependent on anxiety and sleep medications. I felt safe taking it as it is a natural plant and is being overseen by a medical doctor.
