Daily Inspiration: Meet Alexis Mordecai

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Mordecai.

Hi Alexis, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I guess we can start in my younger years. From 12 years old, I was so into hair and clothes. I wouldn’t say high fashion but definitely trying to find my own style. I didn’t grow up with everything I wanted but still obsessed over it. Every event I’ve been to, I spent DAYS and sometimes WEEKS looking for outfits. Thrift stores, high end, low end… I love the challenge and feeling it brings to put an outfit together. So many people ask where I get certain pieces, so I decided to act on it. Help others while evolving my style is PERFECT for me. I started taking OOTD pictures and posting it to my Instagram. While Instagram is great, my own platform is something that I wanted as well. That’s how my blog came about.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been easy. It’s a lot of work. It’s a passion of mine and as many know, in the beginning, going after a dream or passion, there are bumps in the road. I don’t know everything. Somethings I thought I did know didn’t stick. My current website isn’t my first. It is all about trial and error. Finding a photographer and actual time to get the perfect shots are sometimes a challenge. I thank God for my husband because he is so supportive. He currently takes all of my pictures and gives me time (away from our crazy kids) to plan all of my content.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a blogger. I focus on style, motherhood, and marriage. A lot of people don’t know but I also create logos. I haven’t been vocal about that but I do. Mainly for myself, friends and family. I am starting to dip into a family YouTube channel because someone needs to see this crazy life I live! I’m proud of my growth and organization, honestly. I wasn’t taking things seriously and I didn’t always put my all into things but I’d wonder why I wasn’t getting the feedback I needed or expected. My drive, my knowledge, and support sets me apart from others. I know where I’m going and I enjoy finding out how I’ll get there.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
One of my favorite books is by Rachel Hollis called ‘Girl, Stop Apologizing.’ I recommend that book to all of the boss babes or aspiring. I read it every time I need that encouragement! As for apps, I have a few that I use to help with my Instagram content. Planoly and Lightroom are my favorites. Planoly helps me stay organized and it even uploads your content for you. If you want a certain aesthetic for your feed, play with Lightroom. You can even invest in some already made presets.

The podcasts I listen to are mainly about marriage. They are ‘Dead Ass with Khadeen and Devale Ellis’ and ‘Is This Going To Cause An Argument: Marcus and Angel Tanksley.’ I love them because when you’re in a relationship for YEARS, you may feel like you’re alone in some hurdles or issues. They make me feel like we can get through it all! As for blogs, I have a few! They all serve a different purpose for me. Muneera’s (muneerapage.com) helps me with motherhood, family, and marriage. Sonni’s (wegottatalk.com) helps with self-care and balance. Jalisa’s (Jalisaevaughn.com) helps with fashion tips, while Aseky’s (asekybonnaire.com) helps with motherhood, cooking, family and marriage. I keep up with way more but those are what come to mind first.
