Hidden Gems: Meet Mano De La Vega

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mano De La Vega.

Hi Mano, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
De La Vega is a family-owned restaurant created by a brother and sister, Mano De La Vega and Chef Nora De La Vega. They moved from Mexico City many years ago to share their passion for the Mexican culture. This expanded to a passion for Latin culture when Chef Nora married a Costa Rican and Mano married a Venezuelan. Together they established their families in DeLand, Florida in 2004 because of the small family-oriented town feel, where they opened their first restaurant. In 2018 they opened De La Vega Rum, Tapas, and Tequila in Oviedo.

Our passion to share Latin Fusion Tapas comes from Nora’s desire to create dishes with traditional Latin ingredients and adding her own modern twist to them. Our passion for our craft cocktails is inspired by fascinating flavors of premium rum and tequila.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We have gone thru the 2008 financial crisis and the 2020 Pandemic, among other challenges.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We provide beautifully designed spaces for family and friends gatherings that go beyond great food and great craft cocktails. Our lively ambiance and our friendly and committed staff make each visit a memorable experience. All that creates an experience for each of our guests that is unique and different from other restaurants.

We are very proud of our brand, which represents the hard work of the De La Vega family for more than 17 years since we open our first restaurant in DeLand in 2004. What makes us proud is that our restaurants have allowed us to give back to our communities beyond our four walls by donating to charities and contributing to non-profit organizations like creatingjobs.org. We are proud of the high-performing teams that work at our restaurants every day and the wonderful relationships we have been able to nurture and maintain with many of our employees and guests over the years.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Our signature dish is hibiscus tacos; most people have never tried it but when they do, they describe the flavor as an explosion in their mouth and instantly becomes a favorite.
