Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica and Tyler Bohlman.
Hi Jessica and Tyler, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, we’re Jessica and Tyler, aka The Orlando Duo. We both grew up in the Midwest and wanted to escape the cold, so we moved to Central Florida about seven years ago. Having vacationed here our whole lives, we were already big fans of the theme parks, but it wasn’t until we moved here that we realized there was so much more; there are museums, attractions, and really, really good food. We didn’t realize just how diverse Orlando was, how many other people are in the same boat. That’s why, in 2017, we created The Orlando Duo Instagram and the blog about a year later. We still love and talk about the theme parks, but we also love to highlight the awesome things to do around Orlando that a lot of tourists (and even locals!) have never thought of. What started off as a fun hobby and a way to use our writing backgrounds has turned into something we look forward to every week.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Our biggest challenge is finding a balance. Since we both have full-time jobs, we have to balance our time. New things are opening up all the time in Orlando, and it’s hard to keep up with it all. There’s also a lot of other great accounts in the space who have become our friends, who cover the theme parks or local restaurants. We try to be as unique and informed as possible, but there are a lot of other people in town who do what we do.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Our two main work avenues are our Instagram handle and our blog. We post on Instagram almost every day with an Orlando-based post. Whether it’s highlighting one of our favorite restaurants, a new escape room in town, or shining a spotlight on our favorite Disney ride, we highlight something that makes Orlando great. We’ll update the blog every week or two with a more in-depth review of something local. Not everyone who visits or lives in Orlando knows we have a great museum of art, for example. On the blog, we’ll review everything you would need to know if you’re planning a visit. We try to summarize the overall experience and go over specifics like how to get there, where and how to park, and our opinions on the experience. On the theme park side, we explain everything you need to know about a certain ride, event, or experience.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
There will never be a shortage of fun things to do in Orlando! Our theme parks will always be world-class destinations for people to visit from around the globe, but even when the parks are shut down, there is still plenty to talk about in Orlando. 2020 may have stopped us from visiting Disney or other local attractions, but it gave us the opportunity to highlight the amazing local food we have in town. Something fun and interesting is always happening in our city and whether it’s the opening of a new ride or the premiere of a new restaurant, we hope to be there to show the world just how fun Orlando can be.
