Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Scoates Catoe.
Hi Amber, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I always wanted to do hair and makeup. When I was a child, I would always do my friend’s hair and makeup for fun or school dances. I got married and had my son pretty young; I was 20. My first husband didn’t want me to go to cosmetology school. He felt like it wasn’t a good enough career, so I continued bartending. I eventually split from him and when my son got old enough to start school, I went back to school and for my cosmetology license! I worked in salons. First, I was a single mom, working 40-50 hours a week just to pay the bills. I eventually met someone who does hair and makeup for weddings and I got into that field. I feel like special occasion styling and makeup is definitely one of those things that you either love or hate and I LOVE it!
I eventually branched out on my own and started freelancing for a few different teams and trying to get my own weddings as well. I do a lot of free work for advertising and meeting people in my field. I also work at a private salon in mount Dora for my regular color clients, but I specialize/focus on my wedding business. I am currently remarried and I have a new baby girl and I couldn’t be happier. My husband is awesome at supporting my dreams and my career has taken off!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I struggled with addiction issues, as well as severe anxiety and panic attacks. The first person that I worked with doing the hair and makeup for weddings actually fired me because I was pregnant and she felt like it was an inconvenience to her. I was so heartbroken and I felt like I could never do it alone. Eventually, I picked myself up and put myself out there… I started doing g free photoshoots to beef up my online presence and eventually, I started getting more and more people asking me to work with them!

I am a freelance hair and makeup artist. I am based out of Mount Dora Florida and I work all over central Florida. I specialize in bridal and specialize occasion styling.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory would have to be playing outside with my friends or having girlie sleepovers intents! We always did each other’s hair and makeup and I always loved it!
