Today we’d like to introduce you to Milla.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
When I first heard Lil Wayne’s “shoes” off of No ceilings, I instantly fell in love with hip hop and wanted to mimic that anyway I could. Dissecting metaphors and hearing different flows, I started writing when I was 13. Recording raps off my phone thru skull candy headphones and freestyling with friends at the skatepark, I finally got in a “real” studio in 2018 and released my first track. A cover I did on Kodak blacks “Roll in Peace.” From networking with other artists in Orlando and performing at my favorite venue, Soundbar, I have grown expeditiously. Now I run a studio with three other artists, opened up for some major acts and released my first album.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have been thru a lot of challenges when it comes to music, but nothing different than the other guy. Struggling to get my music out there into people’s ears. Finding the right sound that fits my voice. What kind of style do I have. I’m the type to overanalyze a lot things, especially when it comes to my craft. With that, I resulted with a lot of self-esteem issues and had no confidence in my music. Surrounding me are a bunch of talented artists and it took some time to realize I’m up to bat with them. I focused too much on what everyone else was doing and not working on myself, which became my downfall. I was ready to give up on music so many times but with the help of friends and with the choice to finally stop caring what everyone thought and focus on myself, I wrote some of my favorite songs to date. I’m sure there is a mountain of obstacles to face from here on out but with the foundation, I have built for myself, I know I can overcome any adversity.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Hey guys, I’m Milla! I’m an up incoming rapper from Ocala, FL, making his way in Orlando. I focus a lot on lyricism and emotion in my writing. If my songs don’t move you or make you do that stank face after a crazy bar, then I haven’t done my job. I’m learning to be somewhat self-sufficient, so mixing/mastering/cover art and promotion I handle myself.
I tried making beats and that didn’t work out too well. So if you are a producer reading this, please hit me up, haha. I’m sure you are tired of hearing every artist say they are different but go listen to my album “Soul Change” and tell me who you know is doing the same thing. To be cliche, I’m truly not like these other artists. I’m just here to tell my story on how I see the world and try to relate with you. I like to say I make music for myself because this is really my therapy, but my real goal is to make music to help anyone thru a hard time and to let them know that they are not alone. I feel the same pain and I’m here to help any way I can. Call me corny but with all the hate in the world, I just want to show love
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I have learned is you can only count on yourself to get something done. Even when life gives you a hand out, you have to be the one to grab it.
