Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Roseboro.
Hi Scott, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Scott Roseboro, recent graduate of Full Sail University with my master’s of Fine Arts in film and production, valedictorian. I mention these accolades for a reason which I will explain soon. I moved from New Jersey about a year ago to chase a couple of dreams.
My brother, also a graduate of Full Sail, had dreams of becoming a movie director. We had multiple conversations about starting and running our own production company. Shortly after planning out our trek into the industry, he was fatally shot by his roommate at 31 years old. That was two years, three months, and one day ago that he was taken from us. Since then, not only have I started my own production company (HardPlaceVisuals LLC) but graduated with my Master’s of Fine Arts in the same degree as my late brother. The name originates from a time in my life that I was stuck between a rock and a hard place shortly after my brother’s death and the quality I wanted to bring to the world.
My plans are to stay in Florida and live out my brother and I’s dream of creating and telling stories through film. I originally started as a Marketing major at Rowan University. I did a couple of Rowan events and even did commencement photography. My ultimate goal was law school after completing my degree. I took the LSATs and applied to a couple of different schools, not being admitted to any of my top choices. While I could have continued to apply, I decided to make a career change and cater to my creativity; I called Full Sail and was admitted the same day. Two months later, I packed up all of my belongings, stuffed them into a truck, and headed for Florida. This was my first time moving out and living in a different state. Now, over a year later, I’ve assembled a team and we shot our first commercial to go on TV about a month ago. The path has been challenging but well worth it.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
What starts as a hobby always raises apprehension from the parents in the household. Convincing my parents that there is money to be made in this industry was discouraging. Completely switching career paths to pursue your dreams and creativity is also a difficult decision to make as well. I’ve strived to be the best; I wanted my skill to match my equipment and vice versa; attending school and completing my masters almost completely online was a couple of challenges within itself. Every completed challenge brings new ones, now, as a graduate, I’m focusing completely and utterly on my business as a means to not only provide for myself but the other creatives that have graduated from Full Sail with me. The pressure to be successful has always been applied but it is a challenge I’m prepared for and will ultimately overcome.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about HardPLaceVisuals?
HardPlaceVisuals LLC (Productions) is a multi-media company that specializes in anything video or photography-related. We do everything from commercials and films to corporate headshots and weddings. From this name comes our slogan, “Where quality meets creativity,” expressing that we add a creative twist to every individual body of professional work, which, I feel, is what separates us from everyone else. We care about what we do; every person involved in the business loves their line of work and strives to do their best; we want to see our best work portrayed in whatever your vision is. We have a wide variety of talent, all of us with different backgrounds than just film. We have a musical scorer from Berkley on the team, a Navy Vet specializing in government contracts, a screen dancer that has won multiple competitions all around the world, and myself who has directed multiple films, one being for Full Sail. We are confident that anything you can think of, we have the means to pull resources to get it done.
From a brand perspective, we pride ourselves on the quality and efficiency we produce. A clear crispy image, top-of-the-line lighting and audio, and most importantly, a crew that is dedicated to getting the job done in a timely matter is the staple of our brand and what our clients know us for. As mentioned, we offer everything video and photography-related. Video Services (Commercials, documentaries, feature films, TV series, wedding coverage, live event coverage, music videos, screen dance films, dissertation videos, etc.) Photography Services (Corporate headshots, Wedding photography, real estate photography, high fashion and creative photography, event photography, etc.).
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
There is a huge shift in the industry when it comes to the hub of entertainment. Los Angeles is slowly but surely migrating to the east coast to the Georgia and Florida area. The push for quality content is currently beyond the threshold with a lot of people staying home and indulging in online streaming services and even post-pandemic, we’ll see an influx of people returning to the movie theatres and live events. We are also entering a time that the need for different perspectives is at an all-time high. The minority perspective is making its debut and the need for more diverse crews and content is at an all-time high. HardPlaceVisuals, being a black-owned company, is at the forefront of tackling that demand.
