Exploring Life & Business with KeAira Rogers of Virtual Kay

Today we’d like to introduce you to KeAira Rogers.

Hi KeAira, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hello, I am KeAira Rogers and I am the owner of Virtual Kay LLC, a virtual assistant business that provides social media management services for female entrepreneurs to assist with being consistent on their business accounts and scaling their businesses as a result.

I graduated from Old Dominion University in December of 2014, and the following spring, I was accepted into Teach For America Jacksonville, so I moved from Richmond, Virginia to Jacksonville in the Summer of 2015 to begin teaching in inner-city schools here. I fell in love with the community and loved teaching, but it was very stressful, and I do not believe teachers get what they deserve in return.

While in Jacksonville, I met my husband, so after my two-year commitment with TFA, I decided to stay here and continue working in education. We got married on April 6, 2018, and in September of 2019, we found out we were expecting!

After finding out that I was going to have a baby, I knew that I wanted to be able to continue working, but still have the flexibility to be with her and watch her grow, so I started thinking about how to make that happen for myself and my family.

I knew that I loved helping others and that I had provided virtual assistant services to people in the past, so I decided to start a business that I could run from home. Lucky for me, I decided to do this in January of 2020 right before COVID changed the world and EVERYBODY was doing everything virtually!

I started out running my business alone and providing administrative assistance, writing assistance, and social media management to my clients! My ideal clients are black girl bosses! I love seeing everyone win, but I know that opportunities can look a little different for black women in this country although it is getting better.

I love seeing black women running their businesses and providing for themselves and their families like I wanted to do. My services are for all women though! I decided that I wanted to have a more specific offer for my business and offer what I was most knowledgeable about and the thing that was most beneficial to my clients, so now Virtual Kay only offers social media management services.

We all know how important social media management and marketing is when it comes to running a business in 2021! I created a team which now includes two other black girl bosses and I recently brought in my first interns! Things are going great with Virtual Kay and we have provided services for over 20 businesses.

My daughter was born on May 16th, 2020, and I have loved being able to be home with her while still making a difference in the lives of others!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
COVID definitely made things a little difficult for a lot of people and many small businesses struggled. Some of my clients had to make some drastic changes and for some of them, it meant that they were not able to outsource services like the ones they were outsourcing to my company, which meant that there were definitely some rough times through 2020.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I absolutely love creating content for other business owners! Creating for me is designing posts and writing engaging captions that help to grow their audience and businesses. So many of my clients have been able to scale their business as a result of my company’s assistance and that makes me feel SO good! As a mompreneur, I love seeing other women doing their thing in their businesses and creating the lives they WANT for themselves and their families.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
We are always accepting new clients! Our clients are from all over and because our services are offered virtually, we can help you with your business no matter where you are!

I am now offering mentoring services to others that are interested in starting their own virtual assistant business! We also sell Virtual Bae t-shirts for all of the people out there with online businesses!
