Daily Inspiration: Meet Zakaria White

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zakaria White.

Hi Zakaria, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When it comes to photography, I had always dabbled in it when I was younger simply because of the fact that my mom was a photographer. I had taken an AP 2-D art class within my junior year of high school, and that was when I really started to take it seriously! I started out asking to take free pictures of my friends for my AP portfolio, and then prom season and graduation came around so that was when I started charging and really created pricing for my business!

Once I graduated and became a freshman at UCF, no one really knew of me so I had to rebuild my clientele. I knew that to really get my business out there I had to promote more and get involved with opportunities that were able to let me use my camera. For example, E-board images, Pageant images, etc. I started out only shooting 2 seniors during the 2019 fall semester to shooting 10+ seniors this past spring semester!

Just recently, I’ve sold my first image and I’m still mind blown about that! I know it’s only just the start and I’m so excited to see where my camera and my business will take me!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Coming into college as a freshman meant that no one knew of me and I really did not understand the importance of having a presence on social media. So at times, I would notice other photographers and compare myself in a way, not really understanding what truly made me stand out from them. They had years of experience and had built their clientele, and I was really just a beginner in their eyes. At the time, I failed to understand the idea that they were once in my shoes as well.

During COVID, it was difficult to get bookings and really make progress with my work in general, so it slowly caused me to get into an artistic rut. There were so many ideas I had and was ready to execute them but with being on lockdown it made it impossible. Once the lockdown had been lifted, that was when my business really began to take off!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a photographer who specializes in portrait and lifestyle photography! I’m known for having sharp and vibrant pictures, and honestly just being the life of the party when it comes to my sessions! I am most proud of how I’ve really started to make a name for myself in a short amount of time and how far I’ve come since my first session ever. The fact that I’m only so young and really have done SO much so far, says a lot!

What sets me apart from others is my passion and dedication towards my work. I really care about my clients and my purpose for my sessions is to show someone their true beauty. Often times, people come to the sessions and say how they’re not a model or don’t know how to pose, feeling scared and overwhelmed. Yet, by the end of the session they’re more confident and truly amazed at how they were photographed!

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
