Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Mailly.
Hi Hannah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started training dogs when I was fourteen and was diagnosed with an incurable cardiac condition called POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome). Due to my extremely high heart rate, and low blood pressure I would pass out frequently resulting in multiple injuries. Doctors couldn’t help me, so out of desperation we started researching service dogs for people with my condition. We found a trainer that was willing to take me under her wing and teach me everything she knew. I was paired up with an incredible standard poodle who was able to smell hormonal imbalances in my saliva when my heart rate was elevated and alert me. He saved my life multiple times and also gave me a passion to help others with the same condition as me.
I spent many years of interning, studying, and working with some of the most talented trainers in the country.
Fast forward to now I’m twenty-two, married to another incredibly talented dog trainer named Caleb. And we have a beautiful ten-month-old daughter Daise Marie, four dogs, and a thriving business ArmedK9.
We here at ArmedK9 are passionate about equipping people with the knowledge and tools they need to work together as a successful team with their dog. We work with dogs of all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds. Pet dogs, sporting dogs, and service dogs.
Hard work, passion, and the grace of God have gotten me to where I am today.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Dog training is a very competitive field, there is always someone better, faster, and stronger than you. It is very cutthroat, and unfortunately, a lot of trainers only care about money. I had to learn to have a voice and stand up for what’s right very quickly. Which resulted in me losing jobs and opportunities.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the owner and head coach of ArmedK9 in Lakeland Florida. We train dogs of all different backgrounds and behaviors. Something that really sets us apart from other dog trainers is we stand by what we do, and graduate all of our clients with lifetime support. This means if you need us, you have us anytime no charge after graduating.
We truly care about the success of our owners and dogs.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Growing up I loved competing in rodeos. I barrel raced, and also participated in an equestrian drill team.
