Today we’d like to introduce you to Felipe Orozco.
Felipe, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Born in Colombia, graduated as a kitchen technician, I worked for more than 10 years in restaurants in Bogotá, my family (my mother and brother) came to live here in the United States 10 years ago and I have been coming constantly, due to the situation with the covid last year, I started making artisan bakery products, cakes, bread, cookies from my home (Bogotá) and doing catering and now that I’m here I’m looking to turn it into a successful local business.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been easy, there are always situations that make the process a bit difficult, making yourself known, getting customers is always the most difficult thing, entering to compete in a place where people have so many options and prices on occasions very low compared to the ones I have.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a chef, throughout my career I have worked in different types of cuisine, Colombian, Peruvian, Spanish among others, but I have always been fascinated by dough bread, pizzas, cakes, all kinds of doughs, you should try my carrot cake and my sourdough bread … they are too good to be true
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
You always have to try to think about what else can be done, when I go to bed, I wake up thinking about new flavors and how to get people’s attention.
