Conversations with Scott Meshey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Meshey.

Hi Scott, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I started riding dirt bikes as a kid, around four years old. As a kid, I used to go to the professional Motocross races close to where I am originally from in Pennsylvania, always wanting to be one of those pro racers! My love for the sport of Motocross has always run very deep and the competitive side of me has continuously propelled me to achieve the next big accomplishment and to continue advancing up the ranks, along with that dream to become a professional at it one day. Through thousands of miles of driving, countless hours of training, broken bones, and a lot of sweat and tears, I continued climbing through the amateur ranks and started racing in the professional Motocross series in 2019! Since then, I have been able to work up the ranks in the professional Motocross throughout 2019 and 2020 and have since expanded into the professional Supercross series in 2021, as well as the professional Motocross series! Throughout the entire process, I have continued my education (something that is incredibly rare in professional Motocross) and am currently studying for my MBA with a concentration in Sports Business at Saint Leo University. Additionally, I started a YouTube channel to share my journey with people who want to see what it is like as a racer who has to climb the ranks and does not have all the trimmings and advantages of top-ranked, manufacturer-supported, salaried team racers. My efforts are based on a family effort, with my mom, brothers, sister, and the fine people that help support my racing program who mostly reside and do business around or close to the central Florida and Orlando area!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There has been a multitude of challenges that I have had to overcome along the way to be where I am now, and more will continue to present themselves as I continue to grow! It is fairly typical in the sport of Motocross to sustain injuries, which I am no stranger to; broken bones, torn muscles, burns, and concussions are things that I have had to bounce back from and not let it hinder my racing. One of my biggest injuries that almost ended my hopes of professional racing was a shoulder dislocation that required intense surgery and recovery, putting me off the bike for nearly 6 months, and began to take a toll on my mental state as well. I have also suffered from long-term effects of pneumonia, leaving me with exercise-induced asthma, which has been a massive struggle to control and work past, as well as getting any cooperation with the United States Anti-Doping Agency and World Anti-Doping Agency, and is still an issue that I deal with on multiple fronts. I have also persevered through being homeless, with my mom, siblings, and I left to figure out how to get our next meal or get enough gas to get to the doctor’s office as I sustained a massive shoulder injury (not the dislocation incident) just before this chapter presented itself. Finally, the climb up the ranks in the professional setting presents an even more difficult set of challenges, with massive gaps in equipment and training programs from myself to the top-ranked racers that I am getting slowly closer to. However, the personal value of perseverance and never backing down to what life throws your way is a very part of my being and has been a message from my mom for my entire life. A determined mind is what keeps me growing in all aspects of my life as a racer, student, and manager of my own racing program.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As of 2021 and going forward, I will be competing in the AMA Supercross Championship and the AMA Pro Motocross Championship. I have been able to grow my ability to the point where I am finishing 20th or better in most races, which are places for points in the national championship. My YouTube channel continues to grow and shows a bit of myself, which helps me to gain some more following and fans that recognize me at the races! It really makes my day to be able to interact with people who look up to me in that way, and I am all about creating positive impacts. One thing that matters to me more than most athletes at my level is the importance of interaction with fans and making the time to talk to the people who come to see me. My education and the knowledge I have gained through my coursework have helped me tremendously in the growth of my program and the ability to establish creative marketing solutions and value creation. I believe that this helps to set me apart from other racers when working with local, national, and international businesses. If you are interested in being a part of my program or want to support it, please feel free to reach out to me through social media or by email!

What makes you happy?
Being a very self-motivated person, being the best possible version of myself continues to be my goal. As I continue to accomplish smaller goals, the feeling of all my hard work paying off is a feeling that can’t be replaced! Also, as I have said before, creating positive impacts on people is something that is really important to me. Being able to make someone’s day by giving them time and genuine interaction makes me really happy!
