Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Rivera.
Hi Michelle, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Well, it all started when I got back from a trip from NY. As I was coming out of the shower, I had a 3-minute epiphany of my life and a future direction, to become a corporate event planner.
I rushed out the shower and jotted down everything I saw. It took me a week before figuring out how to start, but all I can say is the burning passion inside of me to get started was unbearable and unstoppable.
I thought in order to know all about the corporate events, beginning with weddings would be a good place to start. There are so many details that go into a wedding, I thought if I can learn to master them then in time, I can switch directions.
At my job then, I began emailing different wedding planners, asking them for an opportunity to intern. After 3 months I heard back from my 1st mentor, Michele Butler with Michele Butler Events.
I then moved forward from that experience to work with other planners like “Pixies and Petals” and a few others until I felt it was time for me to start and learn on my own.
Then finally my big opportunity came to plan the wedding for a friend of mine. I was nervous but it was time to put everything I had learned to the test. And it worked, seeing the reaction from everybody and feeling that rush of adrenaline running through me confirmed that this is where I want to be and what I want to be doing.
Since then, I’ve been given other opportunities to plan other weddings and book new couples that have heard of me by referrals or through venues I have partnered with.
But it doesn’t end here, it’s been a 4-year journey with a 10-year goal plan.
It’s been a personal, mental, and spiritual growth all around.
I’ve come across things I never knew before, learned things in ways I was honored to be taught, and have met amazing people with interesting families that have shown me there is so much more to the world that I know.
Everyone’s support has been incredible. I dove into this thing with a fire and it won’t shut off, nor do I want it to.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Overall it has been smooth, but like everything else, nothing is perfect. I think my hardest challenge has been learning to split my time.
It’s been a struggle taking on a new chapter of my life and knowing how to manage the time spent with my family, sleep, myself, events, and a new business.
Every month I reflect how I can adjust my schedule better to still keep my life “balanced”, all while trying to be in the now.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Pop Ups By Mi?
Pop Ups By Mi is a full wedding planning business specializing in Pop Up Weddings which we consider a modern-day elopement.
Knowing the expense that a wedding can take on, A Pop Up wedding allows couples to get married in a more intimate style.
With Pop Ups By Mi, couples are able to get away with their loved one and elope at an original location or invite their closest friends and family to experience the celebration of their union.
Our Pop Up Wedding planners take a private location, tailor it to the needs of our couple and create and unforgettable moment.
Couples get a 2-hour celebration that includes, a ceremony, an officiant, photographs, yummy dessert, and champagne to celebrate their new beginning.
Couples are able to broadcast it virtually or keep it exclusive with just the two of them.
What is different with us is that there is no “right way” to do it, we allow our couples to get as creative as they want, with their location, their outfit, the day of the week, and how the rest of their day goes.
We cater to their needs and we make it happen.
With Pop Ups By Mi we take care of all the planning for them, all they have to do is show up for their Pop Up Wedding!
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I’ll start by saying, I love my life. The people I have in it, my beliefs, my lifestyle. I am very blessed to be alive every day.
However, I don’t believe it’s “Luck” I would like to call it more like “Faith”.
Everything I do I try to do it with a purpose and an intention, believing I’ll achieve some result out of it. Sometimes the results are not what I had “planned” but it’s always just what I needed at the time that I was ready for it.
Other times the test comes first in life, but I have been able to learn lessons from it all and apply them to my next steps.
That’s how I think I have gotten to where I am, and continue to believe that that’s how I’ll keep moving forward.
