Today we’d like to introduce you to Melisa Nieves.
Hi Melisa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I have been living in Orlando since 2000 when I moved to Florida from Puerto Rico, working a few different types of jobs from retail to Jewelry consultant at Friedman, customer service for a dealership to being a telemarketer for a water softening co. I would say there was a Lady who would come often to the Jewelry store to buy gifts for her clients, well dressed and so very pretty I think she inspired me. In 2003 I passed my Real Estate licensing and became a Realtor, I joined Weichert Realtors and worked there for 8 yrs. in Winter Park, Fl. I continued studying because you can never stop learning and growing so I got licensed as a Broker associate then I decided to change brokerages to go with another company but that only lasted a year, after little to no support there I decided it was time to go on my own and created 180 Realty. It was a small brokerage but I knew in my heart that serving and giving excellence was my priority, mostly based on referral-only business we have been able to serve the Central Florida area for almost 9 years. Many of my clients are 1st-time homeowners and I love to hear ‘ We trust you” when it comes to working with a realtor you need that type of trust and communication. It’s like a relationship because you do have to work with these clients between 30 to 90 days at least, even sometimes people are not ready to make the move there’s been a time where years have passed but when they’re ready they hire me as their realtor. I don’t change my phone number! 180 Realty also works with owner investors who rent their properties or remodel to flip. There is so much to offer in the Real Estate market that there’s room to grow and specialize in what you like to do best. I’m a very positive person and believe in God and Jesus Christ and I think that is what has held me together because even thru triumph there is a lot of stressful times too. I love helping the community and we do some events twice a year to feed the homeless. I am a mom of 3 beautiful kids and this career has allowed me to provide them with everything they need including my time to be there for all their events.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The main thing about being in Real Estate is that this is a commission-only business so yes there have been times where you work for free because a deal that is out of your control falls apart and after all that time and effort there is no compensation, but this only happens very seldom. I have learned to budget my expenses and buy what I can afford to keep and not count with anything that I haven’t closed on. I try not to live above our means in case there is a loss of income I don’t lose my belongings. Not to get in a lot of debt, pay off as much things I can, and even when I get the extra money to pay in advance my bills.
It takes a lot of patience working with people because we are all humans and can change decisions. Patience is a virtue.
I also believe in teaching the client about the real estate purchase and not hiding faults and being honest so they make the best decision for their family.
Most important to read and know your rights in a contract, we don’t want clients to lose any money.
As you know, we’re big fans of 180 Realty. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The name of 180 Realty was created with a radical opposite turn. meaning we would take you from one path (of renting being a tenant) to a 180- degree turn to owning and being in control of your money and finances (investment or landlord, or owner) what sets us apart would be truly caring about that client’s future.
Brand wise would be of the change of the person’s lifestyle.
The services we offer is for the clients is to be able to grow. We really love seeing clients afterwards proud of their home, renovating, making it their own, and being able to take control. In most cases, they build equity, refinance to lower payments eliminating mortgage insurance, and buying an investment property It’s really great to see them prosper. When they sell, they get cash in hand that would never happen as a renter. that brings joy.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
We love to get referrals, that is how our business thrives. There are so many professionals that are attached or that we work together to make this dream come true for our clients. We need Inspectors, appraisers, transaction coordinators, Title and Mortgage companies, Painters, repairmen, Landscaping and the list goes on. It’s a team effort and most importantly Realtors who want to grow and help others and that wake up each morning with a mission to succeed to help others and growing themselves to excellence.
