Hidden Gems: Meet Nicholas Scout of Scout Guitars

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicholas Scout.

Hi Nicholas, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
After getting kicked out of high school, I got a job at a banjo factory. Because of that, I managed to climb my way up the ladder of learning tuthiery and instrument repair.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As open-minded as we like to believe musicians are, there is still a small stigma against counterculture looks and age- tattoos, piercings, and looking young. I found that my youthfulness is an insecurity for some older customers. Some believe that if you are younger than them that you can’t know more than them. It is always rewarding to prove them wrong.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a custom guitar shop that builds from scratch. We also handle boutique guitar repairs that the majority of other guitar repair shops must turn away.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I believe the industry will start to split heavily: classic guitar and ergonomic guitar. One will collect and enjoy the vintage aspect while the other will look for the best sounding, lightweight, ergonomic, and progressive style of guitar.
