Daily Inspiration: Meet Kamari White

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamari White.

Hi Kamari, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Kamari White, and I am a 28-year-old aspiring chef/ Entrepreneur.

I was born and raised in Orange County, California. I moved out at 17 to Orlando, Florida, in 2010, right after graduation. I slept on floor next to a pool table while staying in an apartment with four of my friends from high school.

I started out by selling shoe cleaners at a strict commission mall kiosk in the outlet malls.

Fast forward a few years, and I’m working at Michael Kors selling handbags and watches for 5 years. After that, I decided to pursue a career in culinary and started working for hotels like Hilton, Four seasons, and even popular restaurants like Del-friscos.

In 2020 I was working at Hyatt in Lake Nona. During the pandemic, I started making sorbet with the help of my previous girlfriend; we called it Sorbet King, and the tag line was Healthy, Organic, Tasty.

Sorbet King manufactures exotic fresh fruit sorbet made with whole natural fruit, no preservatives, fillers, or high fructose corn syrup. So it’s perfect for those with dietary restrictions, dairy allergies, vegans, nursing women and children, even dogs who love our sorbet too.

Our mission: To use sorbet to spread awareness about healthy eating while putting a smile on someone’s face.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
While it hasn’t been precisely hard or a horrible experience, it did take some extreme execution on my part to get the business to where it is today. Being so, I’ve been able to get Sorbet King into sneaker conventions, fashion shows, Vegan Markets, and even pop-up events in Orlando and Miami. Everyone loves the sorbet and always wants to order more especially lemonade. The challenges that I’m currently facing are sales and volume, and shipping. Sorbet King, as of now, is a one-man team.

Also, building a team and hiring the right people has been a challenge.

Overall, the journey is just beginning, and my goal is to start a franchise to focus on making the best sorbet possible.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I also do private dinners and catering services as a personal chef, where I charge $80+ per person plus the cost of food. Since my background is mainly focused on fine dining, most of my dishes pertain to seafood and steakhouse-style dining. I’m also very good at vegan dishes, and I love making desserts, cakes, pies, cookies, ice cream, and sorbet.

I’m mostly known for going out downtown and promoting sorbet king at different venues, selling to the employees and management, and just being a friendly and humble guy.

I’m most proud of my consistency throughout the year and my ultimate satisfaction with how well the public has received sorbet king.

What sets me apart from others is that, frankly, I’m a young black/African American man from California making my own lane in Florida with sorbet. I’m intelligent, charming, kind, and most of all, giving.

Overall, I’m trying to modernize what black-owned businesses look like, bring it to the masses, and document my journey to help inspire others.

Through community, Integrity, excellence in product, and respect for the environment, we plan to positively adjust the way people eat.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I’m an incredible dancer. I learn pretty fast, and that I have an affinity for animals, bugs, and nature. I care a lot for others, almost too much, and sometimes it bites me, but that’s something I’m learning to calibrate. Most importantly, I’m always looking for some way to help in any capacity that I can. I grew up as an only child, so I want to make actual friends, business partners, etc.

I also love music festivals and can’t wait to have Sorbet King at Rolling loud, ELECTRIC DAISY CARNIVAL, City events, and even a storefront experience with a fruit museum. I think that would be cool.

Overall I want to franchise sorbet king to provide an opportunity for others because the job market is shaky. Making an investment in yourself consistently throughout the years is the best thing you can do for yourself and your loved ones.
