Today we’d like to introduce you to Hilary Jorge.
Hilary, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story started ten years before I even knew it had begun. At the age of 17, I became pregnant by my high school (now husband) and it rocked our world. I was always very outgoing and involved in everything, and he was an introvert! We decided to keep the baby and grow up overnight.
My birth story with my oldest daughter was traumatic, to say the least, we almost did not make it. I had developed eclampsia [extreme high blood] and had an epileptic attack. We were rushed into the ER for an emergency Cesarean.
To this day, I am thankful for the doctors on staff and their knowledge, they able to save our lives!
This experience led my husband and me to vow not to have any other kids for a long, long time.
I was scared for the same experience to happen all over again.
Fast forwards seven years later, and we became pregnant for the nd time, all the emotions, fears, and doubts resurfaced again. But I knew that this time things had to be different. I began to look for information on VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesareans) and was determined to SOMEHOW have this baby the natural way.
I was introduced to a Doula by a close friend who had hired her for support, and that was the beginning of our journey to our Home Birth.
After eight months of healing, coming to peace & learning the dynamics of labor, I successfully had my Home Birth with the help of two Midwives and my doula.
This experience changed my life, and it empowered me in a way I never thought possible. My Momma Bear came out I can say!
After my youngest daughter turned one, that is when I realized that I had to help other women feel this same power. I wanted women to feel comfortable about their birthing choices and & feel secure about their decisions. I needed to advocate for them.
Unfortunately, although we (USA) are so advanced in our medicine, we have one of the highest rates of mortality during or after labor. Something has to be done.
For the last three years, I have worked alongside many women and their families, during the preconception phase, all throughout the birth of their babies. Proving information, options, and most importantly support.
Every day I speak to women via social media that want the power back and birth their way without fear, & it fills my heart with joy.
Not only do I get to witness new life be brought into this world, but see a new WOMAN born as well.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has not been smooth at all. Two years after I had my youngest daughter, we suffered a miscarriage that turns into cancer. Gestational Trophoblastic Disease, a very rare form of cancer, was taking over my uterus. It was one of the hardest seasons of my life. Not only did I lose a baby, but I also had to now fight for my life. It did not give me time to mourn. I had to undergo nine months of chemo and still be a mom to two girls. My family was there for me, every step of the way, my husband was incredible, but GOD… He was the one that saved me!
Two years later, I am CANCER free, living a very healthy life with two beautiful girls!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My passion lies in VBAC (vaginal birth after Cesarean), specially HBAC (home birth after Cesarean), because it is my story too! The fire & empowerment that I see in my clients who are so confident in the capabilities of their bodies. Their GOD-given capabilities! Oh, there’s nothing like it. They set aside all their doubts & fears and become in tune with what their body is telling them, what the baby is doing inside and they become a team to reach the finish line! I have accompanied mothers in every scenario, hospital births, Birth Center Births, and Home births. My proudest moment was supporting a mom during her 3rd labor. She was a 2x cesarean mom, now attempting her home birth. The look on her face when she pushed that baby out is something I will never forget! She recently just gave birth AGAIN, in her home, baby came out before the midwife could arrive!
My love for life & God is what sets me apart. He shines through me, & I do what He says, my clients can attest to this!
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t believe in luck, I believe we all have a purpose in life, and our life experiences, whether GOOD or BAD lead us to where and what we need to do to Glorify Him. I barely advertise online or anywhere, and I have had over 22 clients, ALL of which I have something in common with. Whether it be a loss, a traumatic experience, or even our childhood.
I believe each WOMEN has been brought to me with a purpose, for me to teach them and for me to learn something from them.
