Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Ceglia.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
How I got started is a bit of a cliche, haha. About nine years ago, my rugrat was born and I instantly became a “momtographer”. (A mom who takes excessive photos of her child.) Prior to that moment, I did own a camera and loved to shoot but it was only landscape, not people. Once she was born, it was a game changer. I wanted to live life on my terms, create a schedule that would allow me to be present, all while doing what I loved. Fast forward to the present, I’m where I am today based off of a lot of trial and error. Being a business owner is a constant evolution. You continue to learn, grow, and put your best foot forward no matter what the circumstance is.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I believe it’s safe to say that anything worth having doesn’t come easily. We all have our struggles and challenges along the way. Personally, the two big ones for me are completely opposite to each other.
The first one was creatively. I struggled to find and embrace my photography style. Being a wedding photographer, it’s easy to see what everyone else is doing in such a saturated market and gravitate towards it simply because it’s trending or the popular photographers are doing it. It took me about 5-6 years to finally know what I wanted to create and represent.
The second one was learning to be a business owner and fine-tuning my mindset around entrepreneurship. All I want to do as a creative is create. Planning, directing, shooting, and editing are all things I love to do. But they account for only 10% of the picture as a whole. Business and marketing is an art of its own that requires time, attention, and education. Without it, your business is not sustainable. I’ve become a strong advocate of having mentors and business coaches. They truly are invaluable.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an Orlando wedding photographer and owner of Nova Imagery. I specialize in wedding photography for modern couples who value intentional and editorial images. I’m known for my bold, fine-art photography style. The one thing I am most proud of goes hand in hand with what sets me apart from others. I absolutely love my clients. I love being able to grow with them and create a friendship that goes way beyond their wedding day. It’s the most fulfilling part of being a photographer.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t really believe in luck too much. I feel that your outcome is based on how much effort you put into it as well as how you react to the circumstance. A leap of faith and the right timing plays a role, but ultimately it’s what you do with the outcome and how you move forward that determines if it’s good or bad.
