Today we’d like to introduce you to Monaye Etana.
Hi Monaye, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Florida, but I’ve lived in various areas throughout the U.S. I am the oldest of my siblings so I’ve always had a nurturing spirit and the one delegating things. Unfortunately, my early years were met with trauma after the loss of my mother to suicide. As you can imagine, this impacted me deeply as a child and throughout my life. Although I had my father, grandparents and later a stepmom, there is nothing like the relationship between mother and child. As life went on, I struggled with abandonment and self-esteem issues, lack of self-worth and self-sabotaging behaviors.
In addition to that, my life was further impacted by the loss of trust at the hands of a distant relative. I never told because I thought it was my fault and I was afraid of what would happen to me or my family. Isn’t it crazy how we tend to blame ourselves for the actions of others who know better? As I went on to endure life and become a mom to my own family, I was met with many successes and other traumas. Somehow through my faith and determination to survive, along with seeking counseling, I was able to heal. It wasn’t an overnight process.
Today, I look back on all of my pain and realize that it set me up for my purpose to help others. I am thankful that God saw in me what I could not see in myself at one time in my life.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been anything but a smooth road. As mentioned, I dealt with issues of abandonment, fear of rejection, lack of self-worth and many other issues. What I have learned is that my valley moments provided the pathway for me to recognize my inner strength and walk in power. I am free.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Finance professional by day for a mortgage company and the author of a book called “No Longer Bound” which was written to inspire other women on their path to freedom. In addition, I am also the owner of The Grief Path which provides recovery services for grievers who are trying to heal. Grief is something that many people experience daily and includes so much more than death. We can grieve the loss of employment, marriage, pets or the life we expected among other things.
In my spare time, I run a Lupus blog as well called Unbreakable Survivor. Feel free to follow me there.
I am the most proud of my two adult children and who I am today. All of the things that should have destroyed me did not succeed.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I love adventure and traveling. Whether it’s skydiving, ziplining, horseback riding or roller coasters (although I can’t handle them like I used to) I love it.

This young lady is the real deal. She overcame things that would destroy the average person’s zest for life, and is using her experience to help others. May God continue to bless, lead, and guide her.
