Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Robinson.
Hi Mary, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m really horrible at these LOL and never know the right things to say. I was exposed to photography at a young age before all the fancy cameras that we have today and before there was ever a thing called a smartphone. I dabbled in film for a while like most teens. It wasn’t really til my 20s that I could afford my first Canon DSLR that I really found my passion. I taught myself how to shoot in manual. I taught myself about light and composition. I taught myself how to use Photoshop and before that when I was on a budget-free Gimp. I learned to composite of course not very well at first. I began playing with styling and transforming my models into characters from old in day storybooks.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’m definitely not where I want to be in my photography career. I felt like things were just starting to go the way I wanted as in I was published in a few magazines and had just sold my first book cover. Well, then COVID happened.
We’ve been impressed with Mary Elizabeth Photography, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I specialize in Fine Art Photography. I’m most known for my ethereal storytelling images. You may have seen my photo recently on the cover of The Red Lotus by Chris Bohjalian the author of The Flight Attendant.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Do not let others stop you from doing what makes you happy.
