Daily Inspiration: Meet Kyara Betts

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyara Betts.

Hi Kyara, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a 27 years old entrepreneur with a passion for fashion and a love for Art. As a child, you would always catch me strutting my stuff with a handbag and my favorite sweater which, I called my “shelly shirt”. I was a model and my family was my audience to show off my new outfits. I believe my love for fashion came from trips to Strawbridge’s every Saturday, watching my mother and aunt skimming the racks of designer clothing from Talbot to Calvin Klein. Seeing their faces light up when they found that perfect outfit, something unique and like none other. Fast forward to 2012, I had just entered college as I moved into adulthood, where I was in control of my style. I found a boutique in the mall called Dynamite.

In my eye, they were the most expensive store in the mall because they had such unique styles and the fabric was top-notch quality. I had to have it so I would save my money to buy four unique pieces every week. As I would travel the halls of Community College people would stop me amazed at my style and say ‘where did you get that?’, “that is so different” and I have never seen anything like that. At the time, I just loved standing out from the crowd and being my unique self. Over the years, I started to notice this pattern of compliments based on my style. I said Why not start a boutique based upon my unique fashion sense and bougie on a budget attitude? In 2019, I established KiKi Kouture Boutique, a brand name created from my childhood nickname “KiKi”. My vision for KiKi Kouture Boutique is to encourage women to create their own individual styles and stand out from the crowd.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a winding road as a first-time entrepreneur. Being the cameraman, the marketing guru, the graphic designer, the website creator, and the person who screened the vendors was very hard. At the time I start, I was so overwhelmed but with some planning and scheduling, it became less challenging. The biggest challenge I had was researching tax laws, making sure I had the required ein number to open a business bank account, and have the required wholesale / resellers license from the state I live in. However, research is one of my favorite things to do and part of my daily job at the IRS. I love new challenges because it gives me a chance to learn new things and help other business owners struggling with the same issues.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Customer Service Representative for the Internal Revenue Services with an Associates in Arts from Community College of Philadelphia. I specialize in all aspects of Customer Service, Graphic Design, and Still life artwork. I’m known for my unique attire and fashion sense. I am proud of being a great friend, daughter, and helping hand to any business owner starting out. My ability to listen, help, and encourage people to never give up on their dream sets me apart from others.

What’s next?
My journey as an entrepreneur has just begun and will continue to grow. Stay tuned for a second business venture in the works which has brought me so much peace and has helped me along my spiritual journey of healing. All ill say is it’s an all-natural product-based business that will soothe the mind, body, and soul. As for KiKi Kouture Boutique, we will be showing our faces a lot more on social media and bringing even more unique styles that will knock your socks off.
