Meet Don B.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Don B.

Hi Don, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I moved to Orlando three years ago to start my image consulting business. I previously studied Fashion & Retail Management at The Art Institutes of Indianapolis. After relocating to Florida, I volunteered at several studios as an assistant before finally landing my own photo studio and event space, The Independent Dream Factory.

During this time, I developed a love for podcasting and began work on the first of three shows that I currently produce, “Off Black the Podcast”. My cohost and I met during a fashion show that I was coordinating and she was providing makeup services for. Together we launched “Off Black the Podcast” on all streaming platforms. Where we tackle celebrity news, taboo topics, and our favorite music topics. We also try our best to highlight other upcoming entrepreneurs as well through our ads as well as guest interviews.

I also have recently partnered with the radio station WXSJ 97.3 Sunshine Jamz Miami, in which I host a show spotlighting indie artists called “Backstage Jamz “ and also manage the station’s programming. I have a third show entitled “The B’SPOT “ which is focused on music industry lore and little known music facts.

Currently, I am busy taking care of my studio space where I record radio interviews, as well as continue my image consultations for local artists, businesses and others. I also created and host, along with my team, a quarterly networking event called The Myxer, where I invite business owners, creatives, and artists to come enjoy a night of live music, food, and connecting with like-minded individuals.

I am looking forward to the continued growth of my team, as well as my brand and helping as many independent dreamers as I can along the way.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would say it was a pretty rough road in the beginning as I moved here with no knowledge of the city or anyone in it. But I continued to volunteer as much as possible and in a few short years, I have established a pretty solid network as well as acquiring my own space to work out of. Three years is a short time but it was a nonstop hustle to make those connections.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I would say that I am most known as an image consultant in Orlando. What sets me apart is that I have experience in multiple fields and I try to bring all those aspects into my work. My business is more than just picking out an outfit for my client but taking the time to get to know who they are and what their message is. That way, I am able to craft a look for them that really shows them at their best. I also provide project council, as well as self-help sessions so that my clients can be their best selves all around.

I am very proud of the clientele I have developed and even more proud of the trust and loyalty that I have with each one of them.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is hard to select but I would have to say my time playing saxophone in a Tejano band in my small town in Texas. That was the beginning of my image consulting little did I know.
