Inspiring Conversations with Kristal Sims of KS Skin and Makeup Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristal Sims.

Hi Kristal, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started doing hair when I was 16. My grandmother owned two salons and my mom was self-taught. I grew up watching them and I started doing hair on all of my cousins. After I graduated high school, I joined the Army because that’s what my mother wanted. It wasn’t until 2016 that I decided to quit my job and go to cosmetology school. However, March of that year, my mother passed away. I went into a deep depression but I knew I couldn’t give up because she would always tell me how great I was at doing hair. I started Beauty By Kris the same year. 2020 I added Beauty By Kris Cosmetics under my belt because I started to fall in love with makeup and I wanted to offer my clients affordable makeup. I was doing hair & makeup but my passion for skin & makeup started to grow stronger. My goal was to one day own my very own makeup studio or spa. I continued to do hair but it honestly was stressing me out instead of making me happy so I started taking less clients and wanted to focus on skin and makeup. Here we are today. KS Skin & Makeup Studio will be officially opening our doors on November 27, 2021. We will be offering Makeup services, facials & waxing.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely been a struggle. I’m trying to balance life as a new wife, mother and business owner. Opening a physical business is a lot of work.

We’ve been impressed with KS Skin & Makeup Studio, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our services will range from makeup, waxing & facials. Our specialty is “Natural Makeup”. I’m a firm believer that makeup should enhance you.

One of my many goals was to make women not only look good on the outside but to make them feel good on the inside.

At our Studio, the gossip stays outside. We’re simply uplifting you, talking about goals and pushing to find your passion.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Being true to yourself. Staying focused on YOUR business.
