Today we’d like to introduce you to ZEFECT .
Hi ZEFECT, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Music has always been a big part of my life, especially growing up around my Dad who built a studio out of his basement in NY. I moved when I was little to Fort Myers,FL. I didn’t take a big interest in music though until about middle school. I got my own mic and started recording myself. At that time in my opinion I wasn’t all that good but everyone around me said otherwise and would share my music! Got into college & met up with a old friend who put me on to a studio. From there I just been recording, performing, and working to get my sound right & heard!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nah things weren’t always sweet but life is still always good for me no matter what. I’m alive doing what I love to do & I know that I’m destined to make music. I believe in manifestation & and conquered a lot through that. There were times where we couldn’t pay rent or other bills. At odds with the fam. I was in a bad relationship that messed me up for real & changed how I engage with people. Bad friendships. People I loved who showed a different face. & overall battling myself and the own devil on my shoulder. Nothing crazy but something I bet a lot can relate to. I often incorporate this in my music.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I just like to say I make music because that’s what I do. I experimented in multiple genres but my main two are Hip Hop & R&B. I feel my strongest thing is my pen for real. I feel I really know how to put my words together and just paint a picture/vibe. I’ve written for artist before, including ghostwriting. That’s something I want to dive into more in the near future. A lot of the times and especially these days I mix & master my own music. Even though Ive been doing so for years I feel like I’m only just getting to where I want to be. Still bettering myself everyday and only getting better when it comes to that. I feel my music is authentic & is just genuinely me. I also bring in a twist & something different as I bring in a new wave of lo-fi trap soul music.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorites was when I did my first recording. When I was little my Dad used to always be in the basement working on music or recording other people. One day it was just us in the crib & he took me down to the basement. At the time I wasn’t really allowed down stairs cause they used to burn it down in there so it was cool for me to finally be in the basement with everyone. That’s when I saw the studio. The whole booth was setup and mix was there. My Dad brought me in there and put me to the mic. I was nervous as hell! They had me recording and I was just saying anything over my Dads beat! It was hella dope though to get that experience even though I wasn’t all into music at the time either.
