Today we’d like to introduce you to JAMES BEJER.
JAMES, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
James Bejer is born and raised in Orlando, Florida. He graduated from University High School in 2004. After High School he enlisted in the United States Navy. Mr. Bejer Served in the Navy from 2004-2009 as noncommissioned officer on board the USS Enterprise as an Aviation Ordnanceman. During this time, he served multiple deployments supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
While in the Navy he was introduced to Gracie Jiu-Jitsu at Linxx Academy of Martial Arts under Frank Cucci. Under Mr. Cucci he was able to achieve the level of blue belt. After being an honorable discharge from the Navy, Mr. Bejer returned home to Orlando eager to continue his Jiu-Jitsu Training.
In 2014, while on vacation Mr. Bejer was able to visit Gracie University (GU) in Torrance, California. During that visit he was able to take a class and meet Rener Gracie. While he was there, he was then introduced to the Gracie University Online Program. After learning about this program, Mr. Bejer came back to Orlando inspired because he discovered a way to continue his Jiu-Jitsu training. In 2014 he opened up his home to create the first Gracie Garage in Orlando. A Gracie Garage is an unofficial affiliate training facility where people gather to study the GU’s online system.
Since 2014 Mr. Bejer has been training students in his garage with the Gracie Combatives and Gracie Bullyproof systems. In results of this Mr. Bejer haas created a student base so large he needs more training space to accommodate. Mr. Bejer’s garage has gotten national attention in the world of Jiu-Jitsu and even got his instructor, world famous Jiu-Jitsu Instructor Rener Gracie to come to his garage to teach a seminar all the way from California.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Jiu-Jitsu was the easy part. The most challenging prt was how to open up the business side of things. Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Orlando is my first business and it was hard to find retail space to open up. Luckily, Avalon Park was lucky to have me. I was turned down by 7 leasing spaces prior to Avalon Park.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Orlando?
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the fastest growing Martial Art in the world today. Gracie Combatives and Gracie Bullyproof are the most sought out self-defense system in the world. No other Jiu-Jitsu School in the Orlando is offering this system of Jiu-Jitsu.
Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Orlando provides high quality self-defense training and education to all ages of adults and children. This self-defense system is based on the Gracie University curriculum and has been tested and proven success for over a hundred years all the around the world. The curriculum and structure for this program includes an online education platform through Gracie University.
What were you like growing up?
I am born and raised in Orlando, Florida. I was always into sports. I played baseball from 2nd grade through high school. I graduated from University High School in 2004.
