Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Connors.
Hi Scott, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was a Cast Member for The Walt Disney Company for 26 years, most of that time was here in Central Florida at Walt Disney World. In December of 2020, I was laid off as a Housekeeping Manager at Disney’s Boardwalk Resort. I have always wanted to work for myself and start my own business. My wife and I have been Disney Vacation Club Members for the past 13 years. From that experience, as well as being a leader in the DVC resorts, I was well aware of the amount of groceries that the guests would bring. I always had a thought that a great idea would be Grocery Packages that would include everything you need for your meals at the resorts. Especially at DVC resorts because a number of the rooms have full kitchens. I developed the idea further and now I have the original packages idea, individual items you can add to a cart, and a custom list option where a guest would send us a list and I fulfill it. At my launch, I had a travel agent reach out to me and ask if I would be doing snack thank you gifts. That launched an idea and now I have over 50 gift baskets that can be ordered and delivered to area resorts.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been ups and downs, but all new endeavors hit some potholes. Getting my name out there was difficult at first, however, I joined the Facebook Group, Ear for Each Other, that gave me great exposure and let me get the word out about my business. At the beginning, it took a little while to get the hang of delivering and where to deliver what. I started out by delivering everything to Bell Services but my guest’s were not getting their gifts and Bell Services was throwing them away. I learned that it was much better to deliver the gifts to the Front Desk at Disney and now they get them every time. Universal Resorts are different, and I learned that the Travel Agent needs to tell them to pick it up from the desk, or they will not receive it.
The Pandemic has really challenged me as far as inventory. I now create my Invoices within two weeks of the guest’s arrival so that I am sure that I can find everything.
We’ve been impressed with Magical Vacation Grocers, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I run a Grocery Delivery Service that specializes in groceries specifically for guests on vacation. I have one-stop-shop grocery packages (full meals, park snacks, etc.) individual items, and a custom list option. I also do amenity gifts that can be delivered directly to area resorts.
I am one person that can be contacted with any questions or concerns, my list of items is double-checked to ensure your order is correct, and I pack all items in boxes and cold sealed bags.
My amenity gifts are affordable, professional, and thoughtfully put together. They are loved by all who receive them.
My brand is always growing and I hope to continue to expand beyond the services I am currently offering.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Visiting Walt Disney World with my parents and meeting my grandparents (who were snowbirds and lived in Pompano Beach). My Mom and Dad told us that we were going to a hotel in Atlanta because my dad had a work conference and we were going enjoy the hotel. The day we were to leave instead of going back up north, we came to Walt Disney World!
