Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Orellano.
Hi Amanda, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m a 28 years old wife & mother to four (9,7,5,4). I’m originally from Bedstuy, Brooklyn in New York. Moved here about five years ago. Forever in your flavor came to be about three years ago in a mobile home I was renting, lol. Anyway, with four kids, birthdays were expensive really expensive. I was a stay home mom while my husband worked long roofing hours. We made ends meet thankfully by the skin of our teeth. However like every parent, I wanted to give my kids the absolute best, I always had a thing for making sweets so I made all my kid’s birthday sweets nothing too crazy I started with oreo and marshmallow pops. Spending 100+ on cakes four times a year wasn’t it. Most times, I would have to downgrade to afford. However, one birthday it dawned on me, “why do you make your own cakes” I remember it like yesterday my first cake was a 6 inch funfetti gummy bear cake for my middle son Wayne’s 4th birthday. After that first cake, I became obsessed to better myself, between my mother & my mother in law they started sending me cake decorating supplies, baking pans, the works. Each birthday that passed, I offered to make cakes and have people cover just the supply cost. For a whole year, I made cakes for free just practicing my craft. I can say 2021 has been an amazing year. I have made over 40+ cakes, met amazing people, attended amazing events & my children haven’t had a basic cake since, lol. I look forward to taking over Tampa one cake at a time.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely trying to balance being a mom & a baker at the same time!!!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I bake & decorate custom cakes. I specialize in fondant cakes, specialty flavors, the works. I also make other sweets such as cupcakes, brownies, marshmallow pops, etc.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory would always have to be handball games at the handball court! Tampa has been so good to me but there are no handball courts, lol.
