Meet Hattie Inese

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hattie Inese.

Hi Hattie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Hattie Inese and I am the Founder/Creative Director of a non profit Creative Purpose Productions. Our mission is to raise awareness and advocate for professional industry standards for artists, facilitate collaborative partnerships amongst Artists, and provide an outlet for at risk youth to express themselves by providing free creative arts programs/workshops in the community.

As a product of parents who struggled with drugs for over 20 years (most of my life), needless to say I have been through and experienced some things. These traumatizing events could have caused me to live life astray or with a purpose. Due to God’s mercy, I am someone who chooses to live life with a purpose. I often am asked how I go through what I did and be who I am today. And my honest answer is only God and the arts. If it wasn’t for my love for dance, singing and movies I don’t think I would have been able to make it through mentally. Essentially the arts saved my life. However, due to my circumstances, I wasn’t one of those kids who had someone consistently take me to workshops and classes to help invest in my growth artistically. This is why I created Creative Purpose. I want to help bridge the gap when it comes to the arts/outlet of expression for those who may not be able to afford it.

As I continued to become familiar and study the world of arts, I saw the competitive nature and the pull for people to be forced to look and act a certain way in order to share their gifts with the world. I want to provide a platform where we can be who we are, express ourselves authentically as artists as this is what makes us the artist we become to begin with. Working together to support one another and build together is something that can be done. It’s a blessing to be able to find an outlet that allows us to express ourselves so we are able to get through what may seem impossible. My goal is to make a difference in my community and be the light I wish to see.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The road to building and growing is not an easy process. Determination and sacrifice is the name of the game. The goal is to grow as you go, it’s not easy to take a step back and deal with yourself. I’ve experienced a few obstacles on this journey and I am still learning and growing. I could give a cliche answer to this question. But I don’t want to do that. The most valuable lesson I have learned is my success depends on me and how I think. A healthy and healing mindset is key, you will run into many obstacles, from feeling alone, unheard and just drained. I have had several sleepless nights of feeling like I just want to quit. No one will care and at the end of the day, it won’t matter. I’ve learned we are a part of the body, once God presents you with your purpose and you understand the role you play in the body quitting is not an option. One must understand self-care and perspective goes a long way. This allows you to deal with any struggle or obstacle that comes your way. Someone is waiting for you to step into the greatness that is you. There is only one you, no one can do what you do.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a creative, my goal is to use my gifts to uplift and inspire. I collaborate with artists to create purpose-driven content. We are known for our live productions, we tell a story using original content as one body via poetry, music and dance live theatre style. We touch on mental health issues by expressing ourselves through art. As an artist, we share the most vulnerable parts of our lives to lift up our community. It takes a village, knowing you are not alone can help one push through the most difficult times. We use a portion of the proceeds to fund free creative arts programs for the youth in the community. We go on tour next Fall, this is for sure a show you don’t want to miss. Follow us to stay updated.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I didn’t have a normal childhood, I was very reserved and unsure of myself. I often felt socially awkward and stayed to myself. Due to many traumatizing experiences, I would rather be alone than around others. I enjoyed video games, music, dance and learning routines from watching shows and movies. Very much so a homebody.
