Life & Work with Studio58 Design Build Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Studio58 Design Build Studio.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Simone and I met working on the field for separate companies and we were always scared how the high-end clients had so much problems caused by lack of communication and clarity on the service. Since we are both architecture designers we decided to partner and have the costumer service as a priority in our deliveries. I take care of all the client relationships from beginning to end while she coordinates the design and build team.

We also decided that she would be the Architect and I would be the General Contractor to offer a complete solution to our clients.

I believe what sets us apart is our process. Although we work with creativity, we have a well-oiled design process that allows us to deliver a unique service at that agreed time. I know that sounds the basic, but how many horror stories we don’t hear about designers and contractors that delay their deliveries many times?

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, and I am glad that I wasn’t. We learned a lot from the problems we had.

Our biggest challenge was to build a team that was aligned with our service quality and pristine customer service.

Since we work in a heated industry, the professionals have a waiting list of clients and they don’t mind if they provide poor service.

Lots of times we agreed on a service with a contractor and they simply disappear or wouldn’t good quality service, so Simone and I had to go and finish the job ourselves. Sometimes with a helper or watching a lot of YouTube tutorials, we became pros in demo, drywall, texture, painting, and flooring because a lot of the times we had to step up and do it literally ourselves.

After five years in business, we have a loyal and qualified team

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Retail Design.

We are a small boutique business and we know how difficult it is to find companies that want to work with small business.

We develop a solution that allows small business to afford high-quality architecture and construction services.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Build an offline network and design imaginary projects.

With all the social media today, we tend to spend a lot of time creating content, posting pictures, or recording stories. I am not saying to not do that, but make that 30% of your marketing strategy. With the other 70%, I would be going to real state events, training sessions, open houses, openings and meeting real people to show what you can do. Our businesses doesn’t require lots of clients so we don’t need the volume that social media brings, at least not in the beginning.

I wish someone had told me to not wait for clients to design projects. If you have one client but you have the capacity to work on three at the same time, design imaginary projects for the other two. It’s a great creativity exercise and you’ll also build a larger portfolio.
