Exploring Life & Business with Alicia Mckie of The Dvyne Brand

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Mckie.

Hi Alicia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The beauty industry is something that I was always fascinated with from a child. I didn’t realize until I got older how much I enjoyed watching women get beautified. I used to watch my mother and older sister as they would get dressed, do their makeup and style their hair and that fascination grew as I got older. Throughout high school and college, I would always find a way to be involved in hair and makeup. So when I got the opportunity to attend cosmetology school in 2008, I was ready to fully engage in what the industry had to offer. I never imagined that 15 years later, I would be salon owner, product and brand developer. There were many struggles along the way but the results and blessings have been so worth it.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely was not a smooth road but I never expected it to be. I’ve always been taught that hard work and preparation is needed for success. I had to work and train countless hours to first perfect my craft and then shift to creating a brand. But honestly, the hardest obstacles came from dealing with self-worth and self-doubt. Truly believing in yourself is sometimes harder than executing the talent.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The Dvyne Brand, Inc is a lifestyle brand. The leader of the brand is Dvyne Beauty Lab. Our full-service beauty salon that has been operating for 11 years. We specialize in hair care, lash extensions, skincare, and nail design.

Along with that the Dvyne Brand has its very own hair care product line and recently launched its very own hair fragrance line this year.

We also host an exclusive dinner event known as The Supper Club. These events showcase the talents of local chefs in Central Florida with a four course menu and wine pairing dinner selection.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I appreciate how diverse the city of Orlando is becoming. Being a Caribbean-American, culture and diversity is very important to me and I feel like the city is doing an awesome job embracing and showcasing it.

Dislikes would only be the weather. Lol. It’s just too hot sometimes.
